Bill Weber loved to play hockey, to coach teams on the arena ice in Houlton Maine.

Weber also coached soccer, was knee deep involved in the Zoo Crew on the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby race since it started back in 1996.

Wrote about Bill Weber on an Active Rain rundown blog post on Bill Weber, his life, character. How he is going to be missed in Houlton Maine since his passing July in 2011. The first annual Bill Weber Alumni Hockey Game at the Millar Arena is this weekend, December 29th at 3pm.

Old timers, hockey players from across the world will hitch hike, take a camel, fly in or crawl under their own power to the Millar Civic Center Arena to skate their brains out one more shift.

To bob, weave, check, skate backwards and do everything possible during their hockey shift before their legs become rubber from the exertion. To help propel their hockey squad to victory in a scapper, dog eat dog skating, puck handling contest of sheer will, wits, skill. To find the twine, chase the black circle.

Looking forward to seeing all the past hockey players from SAMHA, the Houlton Hodgdon Blackhawaks team at the Millar Civic Center for the first annual Bill Weber Alumni Hockey Game.

To say a few words about Bill who is missed, who's spirit is still a big part of the sport programs in Houlton Maine.

He encouraged the hockey teams to never stop digging deep for their best. To consider the locker room their living room houlton maine alumni hockey game players photoand that all the players on this year's team are family.

And set expectations, goals higher than the kids thought they could reach but did.

And the passion of the sport, win or lose good sportsmanship being the end all goal, not just the one in the net on each end of the Houlton hockey ice arena.

The fans will be on their feet, not able to sit down and follow the hockey action as quick hands pass the puck.

Players dangling it, screening, crashing the goalie and playing up the weak side. To find, zing, hit the hole the goalie is weakest in defending. And heading to the "sin bin" for penalties like slashing, roughing, elbowing, boarding to catch their breath. Hang over the side of the box watching the short handed side kill the clock. With bow legged, chipped elbow, missing tooth hockey old timers heading to a couch after the contest.

To recover, watch the first period of "Hockey Night In Canada" before dozing off to sleep. To repair tired, torn, sore over worked muscles from the hockey contest earlier in the day. See you at the Millar Civic Center Saturday December 29th at 3pm for the first hockey match up. Fans can have some pontine, great food and socialize, relive past games, hockey contests. During the zamboni new ice melting, scraping, polishing to create a smooth sheet between periods to play on once the puck is dropped, the period starts.

Watch an earlier Hockey Alumni Game in Houlton Maine at the Millar Civic Center video.

Maine, big state, friendly people, tight communities.

There's lots of fun in non-professional hockey, and oh, I'm sorry, there's no such thing as professional hockey.

All the best.

Every town, city needs a Bill Weber. A bunch of them. It's the people that make a place great, not just the surroundings!
