I had a friend from New Zealand wish me a Happy New Year this morning. After all, it was already 2013 across the International Date Line!
Here in the Eastern Time Zone, our first glimpse of the New Year coincides with the celebration at Times Square New York, and so we were raised on dropping spheres and the strains of Guy Lombardo conducting Auld Lang Syne!
Last year my band played at a New Years party in Alabama. Although a scant 50 mile drive away, our band had to play an extra hour until 2012 made its way to the Central Time Zone.
As a matter of fact, one can easily ring in the New Year twice if they plan properly! Many areas of Georgia straddle the Central Time Zone.
After all, time and dates are all imaginary, a figment of our own creation!
And that makes it all the more exciting!
Happy New Year!
