Brrr...

Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities 303302

I woke up this morning to a surprise. The house downstairs was 63 degrees and the furnace was not working! Now, my HVAC system is original to the house. It is almost 20 years old, but I keep making it work through chewing gum and bailing wire. I do have a home warranty in place and will be calling them this morning to get someone to come out and look it over.

Home warranties are great if you don't mind the lowest bidder working on your home. I keep hoping they will come out, slowly shake their head and exclaim, "This here unit is shot, mister. You need a new one." At this point my warranty kicks in and I get a new Heating and Air Conditioning system. Until now, however, the service guys have somehow managed to revive the system to run again. Rats.

Well, I hope today's technician is chewing gum when he gets to my home. I think its going to take some to get things heating again!

Let us know how it works out...life support or a new one?  It would be nice if you could just put a "do not resuscitate" sign on it!

For me a service policy on the furnace is  a guarantee that someone will be out in short order, then worry about the home warranty later. Good Luck  To wake up to 63 isn't brr, it's balmy   Middle teens is brrr

Gary - I keep hinting at the service tech that it would be fine to draw a sheet over its head and declare time of death...

Peter...

Would you believe that during the winter we leave our thermostats at 63 degrees on purpose? It takes some getting used to but it sure saves money!

Good morning Peter,

If my furnace went south this time of year I do not care to think what the temperature would have been; replaced our 24 year old last year added central A/C and it is even saving money! Yikes!

Make yourself a great day.

Lets shake things up at your home today!

When it hits 60 degrees outside, I head for the beach.  63 indoors is warm to me, but I hope they get that thing fired up for you Peter.

I Make Home Happen™

Peter,

Right before Christmas my hvac heaved it's last breath. I had spent the past few years saying to my technician "This doesn't need to be replaced. This unit isn't that old (15yrs). I SELL houses with units that are twice that age! Can't you fix it?" Well, it lasted until December 23, when I had my tech say he really couldn't do any more and it really needed to be replaced. I spent the next week building fires and using space heaters convinced that it might kick on, but alas, it did not happen. So, on New Years Eve - yes, New Year's Eve! - I accepted my fate and they came out and measured and then were out promptly on January 2, 2013 to install-talk about out with the old and in with the new! BUT, I'm not sure the home warranty is going to cover the entire expense. I think all of that has changed. Let me know how that goes!
