I will give you a hint. I am not talking about the grass. I captured these right out my bedroom window.

It is such fun to watch the birds right out my bedroom window. Shadow likes them too. They aren't as clear as I would like with taking them thru the window glass but you can see them. When I open the window to get a better shot they fly away.

In the first pic there are winter finches or goldfinches. They look like the females whose male companion is yellow but in the winter they all have the same color because the males lose the yellow plumage. In the second photo you will see to the left there is a dark eye junco only appear in the winter. There is also a purple finch. At different times there are the cardinals as well as chickadees. I have tried several times to get them since I took these with the window open but they get spooked and fly away. I need a birdcam attached to the outside window.

They are so small too Sharon, so good eye for pointing them out. Of course when you see them they are hopping about. You are very good at identifying bird species as well. Great fun I agree being a bird watcher.

Gary-They are great camouflaged but you can see them better looking out the window vs me taking a pic thru the window. There are sometimes about 40 at a time. I have been watching birds for quite a while so I got to know the different species

Michael-They sure do which is good so hawks can't see them as well. Which I have had around here.

Alexandra-They definitely tweet up a storm not to mention eat up a storm. Smiling

I'm not good at identifying most birdlife.  They are adorable though.  I think we have those here in Sacramento from time to time!

Hi Sharon,

The other morning I woke up at about 5:00 am and it was still slightly dark and cloudy. I see all these little things wandering over the planter and pavers below the bird feeders. At first i thought they might be mice but zoomed in and realized they were baby birds.....and so adorable. I took a couple of pictures. I guess the parents let them out to spread their wings; there must have been 20 or more.

Hi Sharon, I studies the ground and just couldn't guess the ground cover. I saw the birds but figured you put something down as a ground cover to draw the birds. Then I read it and dumb me. Must to late and senses are dulled, LOL.

Is it allysium, Sharon. The birds are so cute to watch; this morning we had a squirrel land on our feeder from about 8 ft up in the tree.

Kristin-There are so many finches right now. They will migrate up north in a few months but this time of year there is a huge flock of them that come.

William-Smiling. The only thing to draw them was food. It wasn't as clear as I would like. I have to invest in a different camera with lenses.

Patricia-Winter finches mostly. They migrate north and visit every year in hoards this time of year. I am doing well and hope you are as well.

Toni-It is indeed fun to watch. The finches take over the feeders when they are here.

Hi Sharon,

Thanks for sharing these pictures.  At first, I'm staring and staring not sure what kind of grass that I was looking at.  Finally, I saw all of the birds.  I wish I hadn't forgotten my glasses outside because I might be able to see them even better.

I hope that you had a nice weekend.
