Top 10 Tips for Buying a New Home

Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

buying new home from builderI'm talking about buying a brand new home, a spanking-brand-new place in the Sacramento area. Maybe the back yard isn't even landscaped yet. You've walked into the builder's new sales office, all googly eyes over the acrylic model homes in the raised glass display case. Perhaps you've progressed to the map stage, where you're looking at the lots and blocks and picking out the spot that might be perfect for you.

Although, you haven't actually gone inside the model home yet, you're dying to see it. You can feel the excitement in the air and you can't wait to buy your very first brand new home. A home that nobody else has ever lived in or slept in or graced the doorstep. You kiss your husband without realizing it.

But you've already made your first major mistake, and you don't even know it. Read my Tips for Buying a New Car Are Useful When Buying a New House. I stole borrowed them from Consumer Reports.

Very well done.  Believe it or not, a site agent actually told her buyer that she only represented the builder and since she already knew and liked an agent who left his card on site, the builder's agent told her to go and see him.  When the buyer said that she wanted the site agent to represent her because she thought that she would save money, the site agent informed her that she would absolutely not save any money by using the site agent.  So, she met with the agent that she already knew and bought a house in the neighborhood of $600K.  But, this is more the exception than the rule.

I never thought about this before I heard it from you, but there is a striking similarity between buying a car and a new house.

Elizabeth,  thanks for the advice. I followed link to full post and can't agree more.

Even with new construction buyers need someone to advocate for them.
