Can Orb Win The Derby and Put Another Gem in Ocala's Crown?

Ocala - Horse Capital of the WorldWith 14 of the 19 horses in this year's Kentucky Derby field having Ocala connections, there is a real good chance of Ocala getting another gem in its crown as Horse Capital of the World!

14 local horses: Derby field has Ocala feel

"LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The odds look good for Marion County to send a horse to the Kentucky Derby winner’s circle.

At least 14 of the 19 Run for the Roses contenders once called the Ocala area home before starting racing careers throughout the country. Those careers have now culminated in a run in the $2 million, 1 1/4-mile race and a shot at racing history.

Orb favorite in kentucky DerbyOcala-area farm ties to Derby horses run the gamut, from morning-line odds favorites Orb and Verrazano to 50-1 long shot Falling Sky. The field is typically 20 horses but Black Onyx, broken at Kinsman Farm in Ocala, was scratched Friday."

Nice tie-in, Bob.  We're liking Orb, because he traces back to the great Cox's Ridge on his dam's side, and the CR son Vanlandingham is the sire of several of the mares in my daughter and son-in-laws Kentucky breeding program.  Old time durable thououghbreds - can;t beat them!

Hi Bob, I do not have a favorite horse, but there are some jockeys that I would like to see win.

Bob- I did not know of the connection with Ocala and these horses.  I watched the race but did not have a favorite.

Thanks Jeanne.  It is interesting to see so many parts of the country that have an interest in horses.

Thanks Kathy, are you po=icking jockeys on cuteness?  lol
