Lake Sinclair is a lovely place to retire. It's definately not the kind of place you have to be in a hurry. One of my agents, Joe Walton was in New York this past week. The photos of the traffic at various times of the day he took make me glad I live in a small town. Like him I love to visit a city, but I like to get back to Lake Sinclair and have the same peacefulness he said he found in his two mile walk around his neighborhood this morning where he saw no cars and no people.
But there's so much for retirees to do in this area. One of the many great opportunties is the Learning in Retirement program of Georgia College and State University in Millegeville. They offer so many wonderful things. They plan short trips to area landmarks, they tour local businesses they teach classes, they offer discounts to aerobics classes taught by the Continuing Education Dept of GCSU.
And GCSU also offers many more community events that will keep you as busy as you want to be kept. They have murder myster dinners, theater, art shows, concerts and also offer some free classes to seniors. Of course if that seems like too much work you can always just sit on your deck and look out over the lake and if the mood strikes you go down to the Terry's One Stop or Lakeside Bait and Tackle and pick up some worms or crickets and sit on your dock and fish.
Also some of the area banks have travel groups with wonderful trips they plan for groups of local people. My parents went on a wonderful Canadian tour a couple of years ago and two of my agents and their spouses went to Italy. When I see them plan a trip to Ireland I may be MIA for about ten days.
Also most local community churches have groups for seniors that plan trips and monthly local events and dinners as well. I attend the First Baptist Church in Eatonton and their group is called M n' M's. It really stands for The More the Merrier, but years ago my daughter nick named them "men and mates." They plan a few overnight trips during the year and have a monthly dinner, sometimes a pot luck and sometimes at a local resturant.
There's also a newcommers group just for helping new seniors moving into the Lake Sinclair community to meet new people and find things to do. One of my agents is involved with this group and would be happy to share some information with you. Just call me and I'll get you in touch with him.
So if you are looking for a great community to retire, one where you can do as much or as little as you choose, Lake Sinclair is a great community for just that.
