People used to hang around the water cooler to catch up on the latest office buzz. It was a great place to socialize and find out the latest. Social media is the new water cooler. Here's a ways you can use social media to advance your business' exposure.
- Twitter - Love or hate, it's here to stay. And, if used properly, can be a very useful tool for your business. Take some time to learn how to properly use hash tags, keywords and any other Twitter tools available.
- Have a Hook - As with any marketing, use a creative title or hook to heighten interest. People who use social media a lot will soon tire of the same old boring titles that everyone else is using. Stand out but make sure your title is relevant to what you're promoting. If your content is interesting, other social media users will share what you have to say.
- Do a Little Spying - If you're new to social media, take a look at some of your competition's postings. See what successful tactics they're using (social profiles, contests, surveys, posts) and then figure a way to put your own spin on it.
- Put the Social in Socialize - It's one thing to post your own information but to be successful in social media, you must interact with people. Remember the water cooler? If you're not part of the conversation, no one will know who you are or what you're about. Respond quickly and professionally to comments whether they are positive OR negative. Your professional image is on the line and even an occasional negative comment can be turned into a positive.
- Facebook - Add a "Like" button linked to your business page on your website and blog. You can get the HTML codes for these in the settings area of your Facebook profile.
Add a link to your Facebook page or a 'like' button with a Facebook feed on your blog or website. This will allow your visitors to 'like' your page and subscribe to your posts without having to look you up on Facebook. WordPress has several plugins specific to social media. Many website providers are adding this feature as well.
Every time you post an article to your blog or when you update something on your website, write about it on Facebook with a link relative to your post.
Facebook makes posting comments convenient by providing a calendar feature. So, when you're flooded with ideas to post, simply break them up into smaller posts and schedule them to go out at different time intervals.
Social media doesn't have to be scary. Remember the water cooler scenario and your posts and comments will become easier and easier. By the way...click here to find marketing e-books available for immediate download.
