Venice Florida – Paradise

Why I chose Venice FL?

Originally I migrated from Kuantan Pahang.  The ninth largest city in Malaysia, which is located along the east coast facing the South China Sea. The year round temperature high is about 90°F. It is similar to Venice FL.

Venice Florida Beaches

Venice Florida has warm bright sunshine, beautiful sunsets and six sandy beaches with cool breezes in a serene and peaceful environment. You feel so relaxed and refreshed.

At the same time you may enjoy the wild life like dolphins dancing in the water, manatees swimming around, the pelicans diving for their dinner. You may fish or watch others fishing at the South Jetty.

Beginning in May through October, you may see loggerhead turtles (a protected species) nesting on the beaches – there are areas with sticks and yellow tape to protect the turtle nests.

Venice has been named the “Shark Tooth Capital of the World”. Children and adults can hunt for sharks’ teeth of all sizes and types that wash up on the Caspersen beach and Venice Municipal beach (a certified Blue Wave Beach which received a 2008 Best Restored Beaches Award).

Pet lovers can bring along their dogs to swim and run with on the Brohard dog beach.

For those who like to draw, bring your drawing kits to paint the beaches with panoramic views of blue water, gorgeous sunsets, the scrub jays (protected species) or the gopher tortoise (endangered species) and listen to the birds singing.  For scuba divers, bring your diving gear to the Service Club Park.  There is a pavilion for shelter and an area for picnics.  About a quarter mile offshore is a coral reef site for snorkeling, to see fishes, sea creatures and hunt for large shark teeth or shells.

Fishing is also found at the Venice Fishing Pier(Sharky’s on the Pier Restaurant).  Enjoy fishing, watching the birds and beautiful sunsets or meeting people and making new friends.

Venice Florida History

Venice is a historic city designed by John Nolen with Northern Italian Renaissance architecture. The city is small with big city cultural amenities and has interesting history.

We have a rail road transformed into the Legacy Trail for biking, rollerblading, running, skating, strolling, along the way you can also learn the history from the signs.

The Train depot located at 303  Venice Av E, is now a small museum with items from the early history of the Venice circus, like Gunter Gebel-William “the man who changed the American Circus forever” also “the Lord of the Rings” a world famous animal trainer and a mega star of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus.

Kentucky Military Institute located on W Tampa Ave in Venice, was chosen by Col. Richmond as their winter headquarters and was started in January 1933.  Now it serves as a shopping mall for local residents and tourists.

The Venice Army Air Base was located on Airport Ave. E. It was established from 1942 – 1945 for World War II.

Venice Theatre located at 140 W Tampa Av. used to be Venice Little Theatre and was built in 1926. It will be the home of the 2014 International Community Theatre Festival.

Venice Museum at Triangle Inn located at 351 S Nassau Street. It was built in 1927 and used to be home to civilian employees of the Venice Army Air Base and married military personnel during the World War II.

Lord –Higel House originally located south of Roberts Bay and was built in 1896 – the oldest building in the Venice area. It has been moved to its current location at 409 Granada Ave. At the moment, fund raising for restoration is currently taking place.

Things to do in Venice FL

Beside beaches and the historic buildings, there are many free things to do in Venice FL – I love it.

You can stroll downtown Venice Ave. which is good exercise for good health to prolong quality life.

Browsing over 100 unique clothing boutiques, art galleries and gift shops is a great way to catch up on the newest trends.

If you do not feel like cooking, there are many restaurants from Europe to Asia and back to the Americas, dine around the world indoors or out to enjoy the fresh air.

Children and adults are welcome at the popular Centennial Park's Interactive Fountain to have fun playing with water and cool off their body.

There are 5 different locations in Venice downtown that have Murals:

1. Circus mural at 780 S. Tamiami Trail. 34285
2. Fun and decorative mural of Italy at Barclay Pharmacy.
3. Wildlife mural at Michael Biel Park located near Venice Theatre
4. Sea life mural/mosaic at the children's fountain in the Centennial Park
5. Historic mural on back side of Venice Gondolier's print shop along the waterway Trail

There are two bird rookeries in Venice for you to catch a sight of varied birds. The public bird rookery is located behind the Sarasota County Court House at 4000 S Tamiami Trail in Venice, 34293. The private bird rookery is at Chestnut Creek  Community on Chestnut Creek Blvd. 34292

Kwee, I found your post to be very interesting and so informative.  Buyers should find your knowledge of the area very helpful!  It was suprising to learn about the large number of shark tooth treasures in Venice, as a child my family searched the Shores of Myrtle Beach for teeth back in the late 50s.
