SNOOPY September 25, 1999-October 31, 2013

It has been almost a week...

This is our story about our beloved Pet, it will also give any Animal Owners information for in -home Hospice/End of Life care & Pet Cremation...YES, of your animal child....which for us, made all the difference...

Everyone said the day would come when you would have to leave...we have had you since you were 6 weeks old and your Daddy and I were only married 2 weeks...since then we have always been a FAMILY.

"They" say talking about it will help...I can't tell you how much you meant or how quiet it is without your constant BARKING...your little brother LINUS is sad, and looks for you to boss him around..

.

You got really sick 4 weeks ago and then last week...we were making that dreaded call....we promised you Snoopy, we would never take you to the vet when that time came, like so many of us, we hoped you would "go" in your sleep...very rarely does it ever happen that way...

I started looking about a year ago for a mobile vet Doctor...someone whom would come to your(Snoopy) most trusted place, where you were most comfortable, where your family lived....when the time would come...I wanted to be prepared...it is uncoventional so I figured it would take some time...

As it turns out, in Charlotte, NC, we came across Dr. Keith Tillman...one of the nicest, sweetest, kind, gentle Veternarian we had ever spoken to or talked with...we did not stop going to our regular vet, but, we found that he had End of Life Care and Hospice, and he made....House Calls...

In the last 2 weeks...he was on standby, and finally, it was time to make the call...Daddy and I were in agony and tears...he came by at 4pm, last Thursday...from what I have heard from other Pet owners, there is such dread in bringing a pet to the Animal Hospital for the "Final" procedure...I am so sorry for anyone who has, who will, or must go through that...my heart goes out to you...

What the take away is...my baby Snoopy passed away in his home, it was the most dignified, loving, caring way we knew... this is a new option and not alot of Doctors do this...I cannot express how, as a Pet Parent, I was so happy to have found that Doctor...my little boy was given a sedation to fall asleep...and then ...was gone...surrounded by his family and younger Beagle brother...

Lastly, most of us Pet Parents know that our pets are usually cremated and given back to us...this Vet had partnered with a local Funeral Home who now offered Pet Services...YES, YOU JUST READ THAT CORRECT...what is the most agonizing point in a Pet owners life...suddenly became so much like care for a human loved one that...you know you have done everything you could in life and death for your Pet...

I write this because we picked Snoopy's remains up yesterday, we were met at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home by the Pet Pilgrimage Representatives & Director, we felt like Snoopy was trully honored by all these people who really understood that this was a FAMILY MEMBER...

We loved that Dog more than anything...below is the Doctor's info and Pet Cremation Service...they took the worst dreaded day and made us feel like Snoopy went out of this life as caring and dignified as he deserved.

Hug and kiss your pet child today!

Melissa, you just about have me in tears. I am truly sorry for your loss, for your Doggie Son. I can relate.  I know the sadness. I had the same thing done for my Raven, (my girl...Rottweiler)  that passed away over the summer. She went to "sleep" at her own home, in her own yard. My thoughts and prayers are with you. It will take time for the sadness to heal.

Melissa, wow, what a remarkable vet you found that fit your family's needs. I know what you mean by Pet Parent, as we treat our dog Riley as any other family member. I am thankful that you were able to have time with Snoopy at home...I'm sure Snoopy was thankful too! I am sorry for your loss, just hug Linus twice as much!

Very sad. We went through this several years back and it took us over 3 years to get another dog. THe good news is your memories wont go away and you will get past this but it is horrible when it happens at best.

Peace and prayers to your family and Linus!

Melissa ~ I am sad for your loss. You handled all of this so well. You also shared information for all of us. Thank you for sharing Snoopy. Fourteen years can hold a lot of memories and remembering them can bring some tears but also, some smiles and laughter.

Hi, we have used both of these wonderful people for end of life care for our dogs at the Humane Society of Iredell Co.  I cannot agree more with what you have said.  Dr. Tillman has come to our building in Mooresville and helped us with an abandoned dog that we had been caring for, reach his final resting place.  It was so comforting to know that I could hold this poor boy and ease him off to the Rainbow Bridge.

His remain were in the loving care of the Pet Pilgrimage and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this service and the funeral home.

I wish every animal could die with the dignity provided by Dr. Tillman and the Pet Pilgramage.

I, too, used the services of Pet Pilgramage and Dr. Tillman for the end of life steps for my beautiful cat Bubba.  I found them on the internet at 3 am while searching for places to cremate an animal.  I could no bear to take my cat to the place he hated the most, to end his suffering.  I took him to Leslie and Dr Tillman at Pet Pilgramage and I promise you it was the most positive experience during a most  difficult time.  I highly recommend this place.
