Maryland/Northern Virginia Quilter's Quest
Are you a quilter? Or, perhaps know someone who is? Each year at this time several quilt shops in the area join together for the Quilter's Quest. During this event quilter's, some husbands vist several shops in the hopes of winning some great prizes. This year there are 10 shops on the quest. You have to visit each shop to be eligible to win one of the grand prizes, however, each shop has daily drawings for door prize winners and there's also a scavenger hunt where you have to find the hidden item in the store for special prizes. In addition if you spend $30 in each shop you receive a free pattern and a packet of fabric.
So far, my friend Sue and I have visited 3 shops.
Yesterday, with our friend Sherry, we went to Seminole Sampler located at 71 Mellor Ave., Catonsville, MD 21228. Seminole Sampler is a nice shop with a nice selection of batiks, novelty fabrics, Asian, and a range of contemporary fabrics along with tools, patterns, threads etc. They also offer some great classes. There's plenty of parking and it is close to some great restaurants.
Our second stop was Material Girls located at 6750 Crain Hwy, La Plata, MD 20646. It's quite a drive but well worth the trip. This is a lovely handicap accessible/friendly shop with wide aisles, level entry and lots of space so you can really appreciate the colors, fabrics and accessories they offer. They have a great selection of modern contemporary fabrics from many designers and they also sell sewing machines. They offer classes and have a large classroom.
Then we went to Cottonseed Glory located at 4 Annapolis St., Annapolis, MD 21401. Cottonseed Glory has great samples throughout the store, lots of patterns and their fabric selection is very diverse. They have a great selection of reproduction fabrics from 30's to Civil War. They also sell Bernina machines and have a nice classroom.
Later this week we'll be visiting the remaining 7 shops.
