Thank You Mrs. Johnson for that Betty Crocker Cookbook in Second Grade
by Michelle Carr Crowe, San Jose real estate agent
At the end of Second Grade, my teacher Mrs. Johnson gave me a gift. Now I wasn't expecting anything, but it was a fun surprise. I could tell it was likely a book. (Certainly appropriate as I had quite a bit of a problem with dyslexia in First Grade but with Mrs. Johnson's help made lots of improvement in Second Grade.)
When I opened up the present, I was surprised to find out it was a Betty Crocker Cookbook for Boys and Girls. Mrs. Johnson must have thought I was really growing up to be able to learn to cook!
It's a good thing, too, because the next year my mother got her real estate license and I did need to learn how to cook!
That Betty Crocker Cookbook holds recipes my family has now enjoyed for decades.
Two treats from that cookbook we love to make at Thanksgiving and Christmas are Peanut Butter Balls and Molasses Crinkles.
Tonight we made Molasses Crinkles and chilled the dough so we can make Molasses Crinkles to share for Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Johnson, thanks again for a great gift.
