Florida Nature - American Bald Eagle

Yesterday, I looked out of the window and this American Bald Eagle caught my eye as he was sitting on top of a light pole looking around with his Eagle eyes.

I never get tired of watching the birds here in Hernando Beach and although we often see Eagles flying high above but not too often roosting in the more populated areas. I was glad he stayed long enough for me to shoot a few photos!

Hernando County is part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and we are lucky to be able to observe a wide variety of birds throughout the year. There are a couple of Bald Eagle pairs who nest in the area and during the winter time, we also get to see a lot of migrating birds.

Hi Sylvia - Awesome photo. We have baldies all around here, but the chance to get a shot like that is very rare. We had 9 of them on our lake last winter for a few days, but even with a 300mm, they were too shy to get anything that nice.

Hi Silvia,

Great photo of our national bird. We don't have any around where I live and I never see any in the mountains as they are hiding from me. We even have a bald eagle count 3 times a year and the numbers are like 7, 13, 9. So that tells me there are not too many. It is such a stately looking bird and lucky to have a bird area where they nest.
