Not horsing around, those are major fence posts for those hay burners. Nice.
I have never seen a picture of wild horses so close to the ocean. Great picture, Steve and Jan. Have you ever seen them running along the beaches?
Such a beautiful photograph against an incredible setting. Well deserving of a feature.
Andrew, Thank you. These beauties are actually not fenced in. There is only one fence that I am aware of to keep them out of civilization and injury. There are no roads in this section of the banks. The homes here are only accessible by beach 4 wheel drive. No roads.
Sharon and Bruce, yes.Somewhere I have a photo of a stallion driving a younger horse into the surf to protect his herd of fillies. It was pretty violent. The young horse stayed in the ocean until the older male pranced off in victory and out of sight.
Myrl, thank you for the feature. As many good photos of this type happen...this one was much luck. The light was just right to show the varied colors in the horses coats yet not so bright as to blow out the rest of the scene.
Michael, thank you. We have been visiting here fairly regularly for 25 years. It is wonderful.
William, thousands of wild horses once roamed the outer banks. Now there are around 150 in this North Carolina section north of Corolla too the VA border, Around 7500 acres of horse play ground. There are more wild horses in the Maryland and Virginia section of the Outer Banks. They are descendants of horses shipwrecked on these islands
Just seems odd to me for there to be wild horses on the beach in Virginia. Don't know why.....
Steve, these guys remind me of the deer from Rock Creek Park coming in and eating our shrubs.
Hi Steve,
Magnificent picture and amazing they are wild as they look so clean and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of your very best photos. It goes at the top with the twin fawn.
Good morning Steve. This is a wonderfully moving and evocative photo. As Cheyl said, your work should be in a gallery. Suggested and enjoyed.
Than, exactly. Who would have thought? They are great tourist attractions
Pat, I know! Our Hostas are always ravaged.
Kristin these horses bathe regularly in the ocean :-)
Cheryl, thank you. Lucky shot. right place right time. The light was so perfect. It is a photographer's cliche but true..."it is all about the light"
Sheila, thank you. It is one of my favs and I think I will print it :-)
Steve, wow another great shot and lucky you getting to visit the Outer Banks.
That's a perfectly beautiful picture. Your talent is shining through. Love how the bird is right there with the horses.
Great shot. This photo just reminds me how much I miss the beach! I grew up on the East Coast, then moved to Colorado in 1991. We get back once in a while, but not often enough!
Steve, great shot of wild horses. I have seen them on eastern shore of Md/VA. Assateaugue.
