Not in New York and not on your life! When a home expires from the market it is off the market, period. If you want your house back on the market whether with your agent or another, you have to sign all the listing paperwork again.

When a home is due to expire from the market, your agent can give you a form called the MLS Report of Change Form. It is on this form what date you want to extend the listing expiration date to. You, being the homeowner, have to sign this form and your agent signs.

If your home has been extended on the MLS without your written permission, your agent is not doing the right thing.

What about an email from an owner. Does that count as authorization to extend in New York?

Hi Gary, yes but not every state honors that. I prefer to have them sign the form instead of email.

Jackie, great subject to address.  Same as reducing or increasing the price on a listing.  I see some on the MLS that change the price every single day to attract attention on the MLS daily update and wonder if the listing agent is getting the form signed with every daily change.
