Babe Ruth's Last Interview ... On Real Estate

Babe Ruth has said a lot of things about baseball, but what would he he say if asked about selling a house in 2014?

George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Jr., nicknamed "the Sultan of Swat", played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), from 1914 to 1935. The Babe achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees and established many batting (and some pitching) records, including career home runs (714). One of the most prolific hitters in baseball history, Ruth was one of the first five players to be elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.

I thought it might be interesting to apply some of his most often quoted expressions, but use them in reference to selling a home.

Opinions On Real Estate

Before we get to the Babe's thoughts, it's important to note that he is not alone as somebody in the limelight with thoughts on the real estate market. I have included a few links below to what some other historically famous people had to say about the housing industry:

Housing Thoughts From The Sultan Of Swat

Babe Ruth Real Estate Selling A HomeBabe Ruth was a superstar before there were sports superstars. He was not the most often quoted celebrity in the world, but he did make a few statements that are most appropriate for selling a home in the Tallahassee housing market. Here are a few that I like:

The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.

The day of the pure independent contractor in real estate is over. It takes more than an individual to sell a home while achieving the top dollar for the homeowner. Most real estate companies are a collection of fine individual producers, but it is the company that works as a team that delivers the best solution for people selling a home in 2014.

Yesterday's home runs don't win today's games.

So true in both sports and home selling. What a real estate agent (or company) sold over the past ten years means little if you cannot implement a targeted internet marketing plan for home sellers. The internet has changed the way we sell a home today, and homeowners looking to get top dollar had better ensure they hire the company with the best home selling plan.

Don't let the fear of striking out hold you back.

A powerful thought for people who are considering a short sale on their home. So many people who are upside down on their homes have stayed in place, mostly due to the fear of what would happen if they executed a short sale. Take the time to discover all of your options if you want to move, don't let the fear of the unknown hold you back.

If I'd just tried for them dinky singles I could've batted around .600.

This final quote is perfect for the implementation of a targeted marketing plan. Most home sellers think they should be looking for "that one special buyer" ... the "home run" buyer who will pay top dollar for the home. But a wiser marketing plan markets to the rule, not to the exception. If we can focus on bringing in everybody who might be a good buyer for a home, we will end up netting a higher dollar for the home seller. By focusing on hitting "many singles" instead of the occasional home run, home sellers will have much greater odds of getting top dollar when selling a home.

In Summary

I hope "the Sultan of Swat" has helped you clarify your thinking as a home seller. If you are thinking about selling a home today, just drop me a note and we can schedule a time to show you how a targeted internet marketing plan for your home will net you top dollar in today's real estate market.

Profit from my two decades of experience

Joe, Nice photo of Babe in a Boston uniform. Some very good baseball analogies. I like the one taking about sellers waiting for the home run, the one buyer who will pay top dollar for their home instead of focusing on many more buyers.

Thank you Adrian. We like our sellers to understand the more buyers, the higher the price they will fetch.
