As a landscape painter, Ron Williams brings emotion to the canvas. Collectors and critics alike compare his paintings to the luminance works of the Hudson River School. His impressionist works have been related to Corot and Monet.
Raised in Tennessee, Williams is highly self-educated in the techniques as well as the histories of the major American and European Artists. His works vary from the intricately detailed to the loosely rendered impressionist images. Williams receives inspiration from the Southern Appalachian Highlands. He has an uncanny ability to portray the atmosphere, which is responsible for the term smokey in our mountains.
Many of his paintings are specific; some however, are re-arrangements of nature. It has been said that a painter must know his subject thoroughly. A brief observation reveals Williams intimate relationship with the southern mountains. A naturally introverted person, Williams shuns publicity. He seldom makes personal appearances, preferring the solace of the mountains.
Williams has been a full-time practicing artist for more than twenty years. He has received little publicity but has been highly collected since 1980.
The art gallery is about a mile from my home and I enjoy visiting the gallery talking with the owner, Marily Cooper, and seeing all the wonderful art hanging on the walls. When you are in Lewisburg, stop in to visit Marilyn at the Cooper Art Gallery.
