1800GotJunk to the Rescue for my Seller

We are close to closing on a quick sale and the seller, who lives out of state, has had to have the house cleaned out.

Some items have been trashed, others donated.

1800GotJunk in EncinitasIt’s not always easy finding someone to donate items to, and some vendors (e.g., Salvation Army), while they will come pick up things at the property will refuse certain things based on condition, or for other reasons.

Such was the case the other day.

After canceling their previously arranged pick-up, Salvation Army was scheduled to come pick up the last load of items from the garage. Unfortunately they did not take everything and I was left with a load bit enough for my SUV including furniture.

I made a call to 1800GotJunk, who I’ve used in the past. They quickly set up a time to pick up the next day, which worked well for my busy schedule.

They showed up right on time, with a pre-call about 15 minutes beforehand, and cleaned out the garage. The fee was $187 (they charge based on volume not weight, and quote you a price before they do anything). They seem to be willing to take anything and everything (not sure about all hazardous waste items). Items they collect are recycled, donated, converted to energy or end up in a landfill.

1800GotJunk was terrific and came to the rescue for my seller!

Agreed. Would have been nice to get the junk gone for free but this is a deal and worth the convenience.

Jeff, GoodWill, Salvation Army and others are getting more and more particular about what they take. It's nice to know that you resolved the issue for less than $200.00.  Nicely done.

Great endorsement for 1-800-GOT-JUNK.   We have a local business that does this.  Started by a college grad who couldn't find a job so he created his own company.  He's our go to junk guy.

Kathleen - it is absolutely the case, whether it's apick up or you take stuff in. Getting rid of junk is NOT always easy

Chris Ann - that's a great story. Some terrific businesses are born that way. There is a tremendous need for this.

That company (1800Got Junk) comes highly recommended by one of the managers in my office. With your happy story, I'm thinking of sending their info to one of my sellers with a full house. Good post!

I discovered that calling NPO's who pick up used stuff isn't really complete, yet if you don't ask about taking all or nothing, you could be making more calls to remove the remaining stuff and costing you money. Most veterans NPO's will pick up everything, so Ii would call them first.

It amazes me that it is how difficult it can be to give things away.  In the area I service we are rural and Usually the biggest issue is to find people strong enough to move the big stuff. $200 is a bargain to get it all done quickly.

Amazing!

I have also had this situation and I'll keep this idea in mind.

Thanks for sharing,

Always a pleasure to encounter companies that provide a needed service in a professional manner.

As a former construction project engineer/manager I can tell you many, if not most, people do not think of an acquisition through its entire life cycle. They usually stop at buying a replacement or no longer needing it. Proper disposal should be a part of the plan, but because it isn't 1800gotjunk has founds its niche.

Dorte - I have used them several times and they are terrific

Dalia - they come well recommended

Kimo - good recommendation. I  am building a list of places to call for sharing with sellers going forward. BTW so nice to meet you yesterday at the meetup!

Anna - it has gotten more difficult, and garage sales just do not do it. THere are several estate sales companies in our area and these can work well especially if you have a significant amount of things to offload

Steven - it worked well

Marshall - so true. And while used clothing is easier to get rid off people do not think about all the hazardous waste stuff. And now we all have all these used electronics!

Great info!  I usually have the Purple Heart pick up "stuff"!  I'm happy to know that there is a group that will take everything.... even if it does cost!

Kathy

Well it's nice to have options in case one vendor cannot help out or won't take everything you need. I've found that timing can be critical, too - some things HAVE to happen at the last minute

Jeff, this is a great service.  Not only do they make money picking up junk, but they sometimes find treasures buried in the junk that make them more money!

My sellers were also left out in the cold with the same situation recently & I didn't think of these guys. Considering what they have to do, it's not a bad price if things have to get done fast.

Sharon - I Love this service! Yep, there are some great places to donate to, but when you need help getting rid of stuff quickly, and those things others won't take, 1800GotJunk is tterrific

Lyn - it is worth the price and convenience

Gene  - always good to know about these different options
