National Dog Day and HOA's - What Is The Pet Policy?
Yesterday, August 25th was National Dog Day 2014.
Okay, so I'm a little late with bringing the doggie kibble to the party.
But I'm REALLY early for National Dog Day 2015.
This tail is about dogs, in pawticular. Although all pets fall under the HOA rules and regs, this is a post about dogs in the rearview mirror . . . as in 20/20 hindleg sight!
Last week I showed about 20 condo units in a two-day period. The buyer was a nice lady moving up from the Los Angeles area.
"Can I bring my dog Lola with me?" she asked. Then, quickly added, "She's a service dog."
It didn't bother me to have Lola come with . . . and I don't believe access could be denied under ADA guidelines or Fair Housing rules.
The tour was going well. When we were nearing the end of the day on Friday, on the second to last condo we toured, the nice lady moving up from the Los Angeles area said something about her . . . FOUR DOGS!
I had to pause.
My bad! Apparently, when she called the week before to talk to about touring properties and having Lola come with, gosh darned if I didn't ask the question:
And how many dogs are you NOT bringing up here with you?
'Cause if I would of asked that $64,000 question, she would have answered: "Three."
In all my years of selling condos, and properties in HOA's, I know there are the CC&R's in place which cover the associations' pet policies.
When I asked the nice lady moving up from the Los Angeles area "What size is Lola" that was a qualifying question. Since I know most HOA's have a limit on the poundage, I wanted to make sure Lola was in the general range. She was, at slightly above 20 lbs.
Well, with 3 MORE DOGS IN TOW, I don't believe there would be any HOA's permitting that number in their pet policy.
The dog days of summer . . . strikes again. A set of 16 paws, pawbably isn't going to be pawmitted.
We'll be looking at detached the next outing!
