Final days of Fall at Schweitzer Ski Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho
With the hard rains today I thought it would be appropriate to give a last look at Schweitzer Resort before the white storms show up. I was up there just the other day and quite beautiful. The fall colors were still trying to hold on while a light dusting of snow was on the upper ridges. All this only emphasized the final fall days at Schweitzer Resort as skiers and boarders alike anxiously await the white magic.
The main Village itself was looking more like a ghost town that anything else. The clouds dark and gray for the most part. Smoke was seen on distant hills from ignited burn piles that had been given okay's due to the rains. Even the view from 'turn 7' gave cold and chilly looking views of Lake Pend Oreille and Sandpoint.
With the temperatures in the upper 30's at night it will not be long before we see snow holding on the mountain. Surprisingly the top is only 6,400 feet with the lowest skiing at 4,000. 2,400 vertical is definitely makes for a great ski resort. 2011 and 2012 maxed out with snow base coverage at over 100 inches. Last year was 94 inch base max. So it will be interesting to see which way "Old Man Whether" takes us this year.
