Population growth over the years in NewtonHousing trends in Newton MA.  I just read a fascinating report about the housing trends and demographics in the city of Newton MA.  This report was prepared by the Dukakis Center of Northeastern University and was written by Barry Bluestone and Tracy Corley.  Newton was settled in 1630 and is comprised of 13 villages.  An overview of the report shows that the city has grown during the time of the early automobile (1930-1960) as people became able to move further from the city.  That trend also was the reason the city declined in population. By 1980 the population had declined again as people moved further from Boston.

villages of Newton MAAlong with the population growth has been a growth in the diversity of the city.  Newton has grown it's diversity populations because of it's proximity to great schools like Boston College and is proud to be named as one of the best public school systems in Massachusetts year after year.  Part of this diversity growth has to do with the unique structure of the 13 villages that comprise Newton itself. Each village has it's own center and stores and yet they all are Newton.  Wellesley has just a few zip codes that covers a greater space, but Newton has a greater diversity.  Newton and it's villages connect to parts of the City of Boston at West Roxbury, Wellesley, Brookline, Needham, Waltham, and Watertown.

Newton MA demographicsNewton because of it's diversity and location has attracted some of the best and the brightest along with some of the most successful professionals working in Massachusetts. Because of this the per capita income in Newton continues to rise.  Newton has made efforts to address this issue and attempted to limit the number of luxury homes to be started in the town. This was struck down through the lobbying efforts of the Greater Boston Association of Realtors in conjunction with agents, neighbors and friends living in the city.  Because of the costs of owning a starter home in Newton has gone up many people moved out in that early age groups.  As they become able to buy in again the population is growing.  114 Shornecliffe Road in Newton MA is for sale and is clearly one of the nicest homes in the luxury market at a fantastic price.  Call me if you are looking to buy or sell in Newton and I will be happy to provide you even more information.
