Is ActiveRain truly a Crap-A-Rama?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Tutas Towne Realty, Inc and Garden Views Realty, LLC BK607690

Stoopid is what stoopid does!!!Hi folks. I haven't written a post about ActiveRain in a long time so thought I would do it today.

I don't know how many of you guys venture out into Blogdumb, but if you do, you'll notice that a lot of Bloggers seem to have a problem with ActiveRain.

During the almost 2 years that I have been blogging here, we have been called, by the "upper echelon Bloggers" sheep, lazy, stoopid, inept, point mongers and a myriad of other less than flattering names.

Of course, this is nothing new, it's been going on pretty much since ActiveRain came into existence about 2 years ago.

I wonder why that is? I've been trying to get my head around it but keep getting back to the same old thing, "Do I really give a crap what others think?" Nope I don't. Folks are entitled to their opinion. The reality is, writing about ActiveRain is a good way to drive traffic to your blog AND......if we are so stoopid then why waste time writing about us anyway?

Anyway, this post is about all the excellent benefits that blogging on ActiveRain can give you if you participate and use it to it's full advantage.

  • ActiveRain has awesome SEO power!! Now the outside Bloggers harp on the fact that their outside blogs can achieve the same thing. Well...of course they can. I know because I have one at http://brokerbryant.com that ranks higher than AR for most Poinciana searches and has a Google PR4. The key is to have both an outside blog AND an ActiveRain blog. ActiveRain is just a piece of the puzzle. Why should we have to choose?
  • ActiveRain is an awesome platform for networking with our peers. I've read quite a few outside blogs that state we spend too much time talking amongst ourselves. Well...of course we do. One of the best parts of AR is the ability to build relationships with our peers. ActiveRain members are my friends. How can that possibly be construed as being a bad thing? It can't. Unless of course you were a member that no one wanted to network with. If that's the case, then maybe you should check YOUR attitude. Not question ours.
  • ActiveRain is great for generating consumer contacts and pay checks. All I can say to this one is...that if you are not getting REAL business from participating on AR then you are doing something wrong. The consumer is here in force. How do I know? Well, I get contacts just about everyday. Some I can help and some I can't. But isn't that the same with all Internet leads?
  • ActiveRain is great for improving your Web 2 skills. Now this one really gets me. I've seen folks write about how we at ActiveRain are missing out on Web 2 and how the way we handle our business is antiquated and that we are dinosaurs. Well...OK then. ActiveRain IS Web 2. If we ARE here...then how can we possibly be missing out? We can't. This "point of view" is just flat out stoopid.

Anyway, that's my little post for today. If you need some points, and who doesn't, please feel free to tell me, "great post", "good post", "awesome post", "Way to go BB" or any of the other "stoopid" comments you want to leave. I like 'em. Have at it.

Finally, I want to thank Jonathan, Matt and the rest of the crew for giving us this awesome platform to use for free. You have truly enhanced my business and my life. THANK YOU!!!

By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't point you over to TLW's, newly staged, Crap-A-Rama Blog. That my friends is the beauty of ActiveRain. You can get your crap here.....without ever leaving. What say you?

Hi, BB- some of the "upper echelon" bloggers are very good at what they do- impress themselves, and eachother.  It would seem, in the business of real estate, that the bottom line is comprehension and exposure- both provided here, without having to read through cerebral nonsense that consumers don't care about. Some other "upper echelons" have provided technology advice without the disdain- I much prefer those bloggers.

BT,

Very strange indeed.I had a person from p2 call me a sell out because I no longer post my blogs there. It does in fact seem the lines have been drawn. There is an agenda by some who for what ever reason posted on the RAIN and now believe the RAIN has sold out all due in part because the folks here are running a business. The logic is distorted in my humble opinion.

Bryant.......

Nicely done...... I COULD have another blog, but I just do NOT want to take the time to cut and paste everything from my AR blog into another one.....

USUALLY when baseless comments come around...the owners of the comments are...JEALOUS.....

Waddaya think about THAT, BB?

BB - I know it works for me. I get quite a bit of business from my blog here. That is what is most important. The people that don't achieve any business are usually writing about things that people could care less about when they go to A REAL ESTATE blog. Favorite secret recipe = NO BUSINESS  Great Real Estate article/Opinion = Chance at business.

Faith does have a point Ida. lol Let the online software companies help these people make one of the biggest purchases they'll ever make. I'm sure they'll put just as much heart and soul in it as we do. lol

Bryant- They are just jeolous that they did not make it on Active Rain. Like you said, it is about attitude. If they did not get any business from blogging on AR; then they were absolutely doing something wrong. I get business every day and at least 2 listings every week and I don't have an outside blog. Well, they can talk all the crap they want about Active Rain, it just gives AR more attention and I can laugh all the way to the bank while they are still sitting there talking about how bad things are! :)

Hun... I know you saw this coming and I'm up to a sweet 75...I am so not wasting my time trying to get comments in. It's like having a tooth pulled today :) To All… Whether or not you put images in your Blog Posts is entirely up to you. I will not be recommending any sites that offer images. Personally I have been romping around on the web and have found several sites where the only thing required of the end user (you the Blogger) must give credit to the owner (copyright holder) of the image as well as a link back. The problem I see here is yet another grey area. As the images are hosted on a third party photo site several questions arise: 1. If the owner of the image (the copyright holder) leaves the third party photo site does that not nullify their (and your) agreement with the site? The end result being that the copyright holder has taken back their copyright claim to the images? 2. Should something like this happen can we (the Blogger using the images) prove the images came to us free of any copyright claims? In thinking through my fingertips here…I see that it’s going to be very difficult to obtain images that are free of copyright claims and loop holes. After an entire week of research I have concluded a couple of things…Nothing is really FREE and Lenn Harley is always right :) P.S. Tool bars are not loading on your blog but they are loading on mine. I think I broke your pretty blog :) TLW...ROAR!
