Wow! It’s hard to believe that the first hundred days of the year has come and gone and we’re almost into May. Needless to say, this is been a very interesting year for me as I have been going through the proverbial seven-year itch. Yes, the seven-year itch not only happens in our personal lives but business as well.
January 1 found me in a position where I had to not only reinvent myself but the company as well. I had lost an employee who had been with me for seven years and he wound up taking 40% of my business. That is a huge financial loss and not one that is easily made up. However, we have found a way to persevere and gain market share.
To take a line from Gary Keller, “It’s not about the market, it’s what you do.” The team and I started to do a lot. I got involved with MAPS coaching and started to learn and understand “The One Thing”. While many folks have read the book, the coaching has drilled down into the basic concepts and core principles that are often overlooked. It is through this training and coaching that I have gotten clarity of vision. Now that I can clearly see my big Why, I’m ready to build the business that I’ve always wanted.
Although we are down in sales and revenue as compared to last year, we are on the verge of making up for lost ground with a huge vengeance. I fully anticipate the next few months to be banner for us. I am very excited! And I might add, so is the team.
Good morning Michael. Love your attitude about looking down the road. Very confident that the next few months will be very strong for you.
Hi Michael. I fully anticipate that you will finish out the year very successfully.
Sorry to hear about the loss of the employee but in the long run you'll come back bigger and better. The employee that took those people will have it come back on them sooner or later.
Good morning Anita. You are so right! I am no longer looking through that sheet of wax paper.
Good morning Debbie. Yes, it was a huge blow and I am over it! I am over him too. I am now laser focused!
Good morning Gabe. The team and I are poised to do great things. I can't wait!
Good morning Michael,
I regret someone who was a loyal employee would take steps to under-mind you and your team. There are always consequences for those kind of actions and it sounds like you have moved past his treacherous behavior and are striking back with a vengeance. Good for you and your team..I know you will wind up finishing Strong in 2015!!
Good Thursday morning Michael Thornton -
Yikes! The first of the year was rough but with your faith and hard work there was no doubt you'd over come with flying colors. Onward and upward as we say.
Good morning, Michael -- your vision and your very strong business plan will bring you much success in 2015(and beyond). There can be hurdles and detours along the way you have the knowledge in order to get over and around them.
You are a strong willed man Michael Thornton , I see great things in your future.
It hurts when the business takes a huge hit like that. But in the end it usually turns out for the best and as you said you have reinvented the business and good things are to come.
Hi Michael. What a kick in the teeth. 40% of your business gone. Your attitude and resiliency will win the day.
This year started off slowly for me, but is picking up in momentum as well now!
Michael my friend Conrad Allen referred to the loss of 40% in business as a "kick in the teeth", I would have referred to it a couple of feet lower :)
Glad to hear you got back up on the horse and are gaining it back.
Tough to have an employee leave and take a core part of the business as well. Hope the revised company can make it up with a vengeance
Michael, I love your tagline! When you are dealt lemons you have the opportunity to make your lemonade just as sweet as you want. That is the way to get even...make it sweeter on your own!
As you know, we've had a rough year as well. However, I'm encouraged as we got two listings this week and two more buyers under contract. I think we've made the turn.
I would like to learn more about this MAPPS training too, glad that it is helping you to get back on top quickly.
