There is someone living in my vacant listing!

By
Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities 303302

I heard this story this week and was astounded. I have had to deal with squatters in a home before, but this one was really scary. Several doors down from a listing I have in my own neighborhood is another listing priced at $500,000. The agent who has this listing lives next door to it. A couple of days ago she noticed her yard sign was missing and went over to take a look. She found out the vacant home no longer was!

A mother, father and 2 kids were in the process of moving in! They had some of their possessions already there and had posted no trespassing signs in the windows. Armed with a fake deed, they were claiming this house.

The agent did not confront these people, but did call the police. They arrived and promptly arrested the wife for outstanding warrants, but let the husband go with the kids. Unbelievable!

I guess the moral of the story for listing agents with vacant homes is to be wary and check that listing often. But do be careful out there.

We'll be reading about these scenarios to a greater degree than to the lesser in the future Peter den Boer. It tells about the sad state of affairs this Country is in.

It just never ends does it?  Around here the kids would have been placed in DHS custody and both parents would have been arrested....
