ast of Lake Okeechobee, Martin County is blessed with miles and miles of waterways on two rivers. The Indian River which is also the Intracoastal Waterway and the Saint Lucie River which divides to the North and South Forks on the Stuart and Palm City border. This abundance of waterways makes Martin County a popular destination and home for boaters and fisherman. In fact, Stuart, FL claims to be the Sailfish Capitol of the world. Those wishing to play in the Ocean, we also have miles and miles of unspoiled access to beaches on the Atlantic.
In addition to all the waterfront, Martin County also boasts numerous golf courses many of which have public access. And, if that isn’t enough to make you want to come here, our school system is constantly ranked among the top in Florida’s school rankings.
But, what makes Martin County so special is our strict growth control policy that is intent on keeping the urban sprawl so evident in other parts of Florida out of our County. There is a limit of no more than four stories for all structures in Martin County, with many areas limited to even less. The one and only exception is the Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart which goes up an extra couple of levels. Less traffic, more parking and abundant parks and green spaces make for a very pleasant and enjoyable lifestyle for both young families to 
retirees.
Though we retain a small town atmosphere, we still have many amenities including the Lyric Theater in historic downtown Stuart, the Elliott Museum and the Gilbert House of Refuge Museum on Hutchinson Island. Martin County also boasts one of the finest Library systems in the State with 6 branches all of which offer numerous programs for all residents. Numerous movie theaters, restaurants and the Treasure Coast Mall for those power shoppers.
All of this with a mean average temperature of 74 deg. yearly (82 deg. In the summer). With the prevailing south easterly sea breezes the summer months are surprisingly pleasant for most newcomers.
