Ask An Ambassador- Blogging or Q&A Section, Which Should I Do?

blogging or questionsUntil the last few months we didn't have a Q&A section that was very effective on ActiveRain. When Trulia took over a more robust Q&A section was implemented. This enables members to post questions about real estate topics and get answers from their peers. Some questions get more responses than many of the blog posts that are written. I think this is because it is easy to have an opinion, have a little fun  and offer a word of advice and doesn't take much time to do it.

My opinion is that some members are liking the questions forum more than writing blog posts. It is a way for them to become involved in the community and to get to know others and members to get to know them. It is not to take the place of blogging as this primarily is a blogging platform.

Your blogs are meant to be a format to provide more information to members and the public. If you post to the public then the posts have the ability to rank. The same goes for the questions however I don't see a buyer or seller choosing you as an agent, lender, etc. because you write a question about the best time or day to make phone calls or how you dress to go to work, etc. which are similar to the questions being asked.

Value packed blog posts are the lifeline of ActiveRain and get lots of interaction and attention. I post many of mine on social media and they get lots more mileage and views. They have brought in business. That is my primary objective. Your questions can also be posted on social media but the blog posts with more information are more likely to get ranked on Google. Questions are just not that type of format for providing lots of information and not meant to be.

So should you ask or answer questions in the Q&A forum or write blogs? I think you should do both. Questions are a good way to get started in the Rain and stay involved. But don't forget this is a blogging network and a well written blog post can get you noticed and earn you business, too. The real answer is to be involved in the community.

This is an important topic. Many of the questions and answers should be blog topics that would have a larger audience.

Debbie Reynolds Excellent breakdown off the different posting or questioning possibilities.  I'm not bog on questios unless they are very general.  Too many generate  legal opinions  by "barracks lawyers"

Well said Debbie. This is a blogging platform and it's for creating new business as well as connecting with other members. Q & A's are easy and quick but the're not the lifelinen of what I do here by a long shot. I'm not sure if they have added that much value. Some value, of course....:)

Thanks for your post, Debbie Reynolds. I use the QnA section when I want a quick answer to a question and do not want to take the time to write a blog post. Once in a while I will start with QnA then expand it into a blog post when I have more time to write it.

Debbie I have not use the Q&A at all, and while there are members who use it as it was intended to be used for, others use it as a just a vehicle for quick points.  We already had enough of that going on with the blogs, I don't see a need to provide another platform for them to do more of the same.

I agree with you. I still prefer writing and reading other members' posts for information. We are all here to drum up business and leads. The blog posts have the best ability to do that versus the question page.

Debbie Reynolds,  I agree that both are good.  I like blogs better, maybe because I am more accustomed to them.

Think there is good and bad in both aspects. I am more partial to the blogging aspect. As I stress to buyers and sellers no question is bad if you don't know the answer. Ask away!

I would rather post a nice quality blog. But, I do see the interaction going on with the Q & A section too. It really all comes back to how much time you're able to put into both.

Well said. I try to do both.  I find commenting on blog posts, answering a few questionsn and posting my own articles gives me a balanced approach and works well for me.

There's a definite difference between Q&A and blog posts, just as there's a difference between Active Rainand Facebook.

At first I didn't like it but then better & better questions are getting asked & I add my 2cents if I can.

I do like the Q&A section.  Before we had it I would do questions as a members only post.

I try to do both but find it overwhelming at times.  Q&A takes away from the blogging community, IMO, but I've learned a thing or 2 over there as well.

I agree Debbie.  I would take those same questions or some form of them and turn them into a blogpost.  I read a post that Craig had written and he mentioned how the Q & A had gotten out of control and that's easy to do when there is no one controlling it.

Debbie - I would agree that the best way to attract potential clients would be to write as many blog posts as possible.
