iPhone 6 Tech Tips
In February I upgraded to an iPhone 6 and for those that are iPhone fans you probably are already in love with your phone and know all you can do with it. But just in case I am going to share some basics tips that I learned along the way.
1) Creating a signature- Have you ever received an email from someone's phone or iPad that showed the message was sent from my iPad or iPhone? That is because the person didn't have their mail signature set up and the default was appearing. So here is how you set up a signature.
Go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars then find Signature. You can pick individual email accounts or check All Accounts. Create a signature that you would like to appear on your emails. This will replace the generic statement, Sent from my iPhone. This is also the way you set it up on your iPad.
2) Need an internet connection? Do you ever need to connect a tablet or laptop to the internet and don't have Wi-Fi available?? If you have one of the later versions of iPad or iPhone then you have a Personal Hotspot where you can use the data/internet from your device to work your other device. I do this a lot when traveling since I don't like using the hotel Wi-Fi and having that kind of exposure.
Here's how you turn on you Personal Hotspot. Go to Settings and look for Personal Hotspot located in the first section. Tab over and turn on Personal Hotspot. The device that is piggybacking should pick up the signal and you will need to key into that device your Wi-Fi Passwood that shows on your iPhone. Now you are all set. (This will drain your battery so be sure to turn it off when you are not using it.) If you have a Sprint phone you will have to pay extra to have this Mobile Hotspot feature and it will appear under Cellular Data in your settings.
3) Transfer photos to another Apple device. You have a Control Center with some shortcuts to use. Swipe from the bottom of your Home Page upwards and your Control Center will appear. Across the top row are your controls to turn on and off Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, and Screen Rotation Lock.
Next is your brightness adjustment and under that is the volume control. The next button is Air Drop and this is the function I will be telling you about. But first at the bottom of the Control Center is your flashlight, timer, calculator and camera. This is a quick way to get to these often used functions. Okay now back to Air Drop.
Air Drop- When the Air Drop button is on you can send photos from your iPhone or iPad to other Apple devices if their Air Drop button is on. You do not need Wi-Fi on internet to use this feature. It works device to device. Select Contacts only or Everyone. The names of the devices will appear on your Air Drop. They must be within a few feet of you. The other device's Air Drop must also be on to accept photos through Air Drop. Then go to your photos and your can send photos to the other devices by selecting the person you wish to send it to. Remember the other device (person) will have to accept the photo when it is sent. This is a great way to share photos with family or friends in a room.
I hope you found these iPhone tips helpful. There are so many easy features on the new iPhones and iPads. Reach out and ask another user and pick up a tip here and there. It will help you enjoy your phone and save time too. There is so much more that your iPhone can do and this is only the beginning.
