While Things Are Changing, I Have A Request

I haven't heard so much about change since the 2008 Presidential Election. Hope and Change is alive and well at Active Rain.

While we're putting our wish list together Bob Stewart I have an idea.

I know that there are little gremlins inside our computers and phones which tell websites/apps where we are....our location. I would like for us to customize the consumer's landing page to the local page for that city or location. So if someone is accessing Active Rain from Mission Viejo, it lands on the local "Mission Viejo" page.

I know this seems self-serving...since I'm #1 in Mission Viejo. But also I think it would encourage us to send relevant content to these local landing pages. One thing that was mentioned by Ben in our call this week was that he wanted us to be the Huffington Post of real estate content...ok, let's do it.

If I knew that a possible consumer would land on Mission Viejo, or Orange County, or Lake Arrowhead...I would post every single day, good solid local content.

Just a thought.

Karen, a wonderful idea. Consumers need to be able to easily get to the local information they are looking for.

That is a great idea, the location based features on sites are based on your IP address that your local internet provider assigns to you.

Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner  Sounds like the old localism page that we used to pay for ..maybe that was what Ben was also taking about

Hannah Williams I didn't hear Ben mention this idea. But we have these pages already built...so why not use technology to customize the landing page. If Ben mentioned this idea, that's great. I really think we have to be more consumer oriented here.

Do people actually search for ActiveRain?  Do the majority not just Google the topic and then choose the blog post that fits the bill?   I'm read a lot by the public but they tell me it was google juice that led them to me.

I think you're right Susan, but part of what I thought I heard from B and B is more of a web presence as a go-to site, so this might tie into that

I was on the call too but my sound cut out and I missed quite a bit!  Sounds interesting.

This doesn't really make sense to me.  I would think that most customers would google a term and find that and land on that page!  That's what we all would want.

Very few customers would go directly to activerain.com. That would be more for the real estate community, and I would want them to join AR and see the best home page possible (and of course now it's pitiful).

BUT, a build on what you are saying is that if the computer knows the location, it might alter the footer or side bar to find more info in that community. I think maybe it used to do that years ago (although it might have been driven by the person's blog post you were on.

You know, maybe they could enable IDX or something on here for you guys so people could search for homes.

Karen- what you say makes sense somewhat.  If they want to be more Huffington Post, then it would make sense to be more locally user-friendly.  But as it stands now, I don't think consumers are actually coming to AR except by accident.
