Time For My New Roof - Oh The Decisions

By

It's finally time....time for a new roof. The wood roof at my cabin in Lake Arrowhead, CA needs to be replaced by July 2016. Due to the high fire danger of the San Bernardino Mountains, wood shake roofs must be replaced.

This is creating a problem for me. As part of the bids, I've asked the contractors to also paint the trim from a pale yellow to....something. But what?

This is a big decision because I really can't reach the trim easily. This is a very tall house. My first thought was white trim; I have a barn architecture home in barn red. But now I'm thinking of a putty color. I've thought about green and brown and black. Ugh.

I'm heading up this weekend armed with the big paint color book from the local paint store...wish me luck. This decision needs to last for a long time.

I envy the home sellers who are only going for impact and curb appeal. No wonder they can make these decisions quickly.

I am sure you will make the perfect choice!  My eye for style isn't very good, so I won't offer up any suggestions, haha.

I think you should go with white trim.  Let me see if I can find a picture of a cool place in Evergreen that has those colors.

Karen,

I’m proud of you for not risking life and limb to try painting it yourself. Matching the barn red but not being boring? You do have your work cut out for you. Let us know what you pick.

Home is where the hearth is.

There's nothing sharper than a bright white trim to help a brick red colour pop!

Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner I'd go with a bright glossy yellow but that's just me.

Good afternoon Karen,

Choices choices. A light grey trim goes good with oh hell I don't know and wish you god luck choosing the right colors.

Karen- I don't envy you your decision you have to make. I am partial to the white - it gives it a clean crisp look.  The gray is interesting but gives it more of a dull look.  A lighter grey, like a dove grey might work.  And, you're right about the difference in deciding on a color if you're painting to attract a buyer.  In the end, you don't have to live with it. Good luck.

Karen you'll have fun this weekend playing with different colors.  How about getting a few small samples and painting a little bit of the back section. That way you'll see if it 'pops' for you or not!
