San Diego's Water Park Shows Off New Sculpture

While attending the Festival of Sail on the Embarcadero yesterday, I visited the water park across the street from the San Diego Bay gathering of the tall ships.

As I approached the park, something was different. It glistened both in light and color and I was attracted to see what it was.

A new piece of art was added to the central area of the water park. I am glad to see more and more efforts throughout the City of San Diego to enhance and show off more artistic talents.

William ~ that's a fascinating and unusual piece. What's the story behind it? Is it permanent?

William, I just love the colors on this one - both on the sculpture and the way you captured them with your camera.

Hi Nina Hollander , It says on the attending placard that it is on loan. I added the placard to the post.

Hi Patricia Kennedy , I will say that it is so vibrant. There was no post processing  of the photo, I was lucky to have caught the sunlight just right.

Hopefully, William, when this loan "ends" something else will take its place to dress up the city.

Hi Sharon Lee , I wouldn't say that this sculpure is exactly my taste but you got it right as quite colorful and interesting. I doubt I would ever own a replica of it , but it could look fantastic in your amazing and colorful gaardens.

William,

Definitely colorful, and it would be nice if they had a local artist create a piece that would be permanent.  In both Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, when you build a new commercial building, part of the requirement is to create a fitting piece of art...  A

Good Morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel , I think it might have something to with the allocation of $$. With the city and county so far behind in fixing the roads and repairing infrastructure, if they actually spent what large pieces of sculpture would cost, the tax payers would be plenty upset. This way they have the art and there aren't any objections. While we are this countries 8th largest city, it still maintains a small town mind set and I guess that what attracts so many people here. In some ways and probably more than just a few, we remain lost in the ways of the "Old Wild West". But for all of her faults, she remins a nice place to live.

It's not only the amazing vivid colors on that sculpture that gets my attention, it is the painted texturing also.  Especially in the "trunk" area!
