So you decided to sell your home and now as you prepare for all those home shoppers to come visit and check it out, you are probably wondering how to get ready and keep in SHOW Ready. Here are some quick tips to get you ready...
Before the 1st showing...
- Clean, Clean, Clean - Windows, Carpets, Floors, Blinds, Base Boards Closets, Garages, Front and Backyards! Remember first impressions count and imagine what you think if you walk into a dirty area.
- De-Clutter - Start packing what you won't need. Now is the time to go through that junk drawer, remove the refrigerator magnets and organize the closet, etc. Get ready for your goodwill donation or have a garage sale. Keep in mind closets and cabinets will be opened.
- Depersonalize - Streamline your family photo's, remove important papers, pack away jewelry and expensive items such as cameras, etc
Day of Showing...
- Make Beds.
- Put away Toys.. that includes fido's.
- Put away dirty laundry, clean the laundry room.
- Kitchen: Clean counters, no dishes in the sink or food left on counters.
- Bathrooms: Clean counters, leave toilet seats down, put fresh towels out.
- Vacuum, sweep front entries.
- Secure pets.
- Take out trash.
- Spray air freshener or light "homey" scented candles.
- Leave the house.
I always like to remind my clients when they are selling their home. Remember that feeling you got if you ever walked in a New Home... "It's so nice, staged beautifully and clean!" You love it, right! Now imagine the opposite.. not so pretty, right! Buyers looking at your home are going through that exact scenario the minute they open your door.
Though this is difficult to do when you live in your home daily and you have busy schedules. However, if you keep this in mind each day your home is listed it will make it easier on you, especially when you get those last minute showing calls.
