What will you have left, when the decor walks out the door?

I am blessed to work with Kim Gaston, one of the best stagers in Colorado.

Kim can make a house look so terrific that we receive multiple offers in the first few days we have the house on the market.

That is all well and good IF the house is a good house.

But often times, sellers or stagers do what is known in the trade as “putting lipstick on a pig.”

In defense of stagers they don’t know if the mechanicals are any good or the condition of the roof. Don’t blame them. But the seller knows or may have reason to know.

Before you get all enamored with a beautiful looking house, ask yourself, when all of this décor walks out the door, what will I be left with?

I was recently showing first time buyers a house that was being “flipped.” The buyers thought it all looked good. Then we took a second walk through and I showed them where the flippers had cut corners. I asked them, if the flippers cut corners on the things we can see, would it surprise you if they cut corners on the things behind the walls you can’t see?

It is ok to appreciate nice furniture, and décor. But if the house may be one you are considering making an offer on, be sure your broker does a reality check walk through with you so you know what you’ll have left when the décor has walked out the door.
