The Rose Parade's 2016 Theme is " A Life's Adventure". I find this especially poignant, since designer extraordinaire Raul Rodriguez will be honored. (He passed away this February)
Raul Rodriguez was probably the most famous Rose Parade float designer. He has had more than 500 floats to his credit and the testament to his Spectacular Design skills is the countless Trophies with the most beautiful entries... Just 30 Sweepstakes Trophies are to his credit.
Of all the Trophies he earned, there are too many for me to list here. He has designed for Dole Packaged Foods for many years, but what was incredible is, that five consecutive years they won the Sweepstakes Trophy and of those four were designed by Raul Rodriguez (2011-2014). Sadly he was too sick to design the 2015 Float.
This year for the 127th parade the Tournament of Roses Ken Burns will be the Grand Marshal and I would not be surprised if a Documentary would be fort coming in the near future where Raul Rodriguez Float designer Extraordinaire would be honored.
If you recall previous Rose Parades you would see him with black hair, black beard, black goat tee and a blue macaw (bird) perched on his arm or shoulder.
Now his widower Robert Cash will be riding on the Dole Float with the signature Blue Macaw. I had the privilege of meeting them many years ago, all thanks to a Fred Sands Realtor Associate of mine. Thanks to them Diane and I went one year to the Parade. Truly a once in a life time experience everyone should do. (let me tell you it was very cold on those benches) So if you are watching the the 127th Rose Parade on TV I am sure the Dynamic Duo will spend a few minutes giving tribute to Raul Rodriguez.
