Snow In Sedona = Snowdona!
I toke this video in my neighborhood - The Cottages of CoffeePot located in West Sedona, Arizona. The big red rock is called Coffeepot Rock. Our community which we affectionately call 'The Cottages' sits at the base of that rock. The forest borders our properties and most owners can walk out the front or back slider right into the forest or other hiking trails. It is a great location for easy hiking or just walking your dog.
Today is another day that allows us the ability to enjoy the red rocks of Sedona from a nice vantage point...sitting by a crackling fire. The white fluffy stuff adds so much beauty. The red rocks and Ponderosa Pine trees stand out in contrast to the snow. If you have not seen one of my blogs on our brief encounter with snow each year, the snow does not last and presents no real problems for those of us who have to drive in it.
The most snow we have seen in any one day is about 8 inches. Most of the time it falls at less than 2 inches in a day. Each winter we get a handful of days where snow falls. The roads stay pretty clear. On a very snowy day, trucks may throw out crushed lava rock to help tires with traction.
A lot of times the forest roads are shut down so that no one gets stuck. But we have taken our jeep out on those forest roads when there was a decent amount of snow on the ground and found that traction and the ride was much smoother than the normal rocky road that we would travel on. This was quite surprising.
As the still pcitures at the end of the video, when the sun comes out, there is nothing more beautiful than the backdrop of the snowy red rocks. Sometimes, by the next day, you can't even tell we have received any snow at all!
Have a great week!
