Ask an Ambassador: what to do when you see a post that looks like spam

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Lane Realty Eatonton, GA Lake Sinclair, Milledgeville, 706-485-9668 GREC# 169695

Every now and again I go over to visit the "first posts" to meet new bloggers and find one that well... isn't a real blogger, it's spam.  Someone has gone to the trouble to set up on account just have a place to post spam.  I wonder how much you get paid to post spam? I always report those accounts.  They get nixed and blocked.

I must admit, I miss that little red flag button we used to have where we could report a post.  But, it is certainly still possible to report.  When I run across a spammy profile or post or even one that is blatant plagiarism I always report it.

We the membership ARE the ActiveRain community and it's up to us to police and patrol.  Think of it as a "neighborhood watch" kind of program.  You don't want criminals on your street looting and we don't want spam filling up our servers and being associated with our on line community.  So when you find a questionable post simply copy the url and paste into an email and send it off to support@activerain.com .  Easy Peazy.

If you have questions about happenings, issues or even need some blogging tips you can always reach out to the Ambassadors.  We don't have an "app" for that, but we do have a group for that. Ask an Ambassador group is definately one every member should belong to.  It's a great place to put a post with questions to get answered (someone is monitoring it daily) and it's a great place to look through other asked and answered questions too. click on that link and hop on over there and join now.

Tammy- I too miss the red flag but we can still report spam or other issues!  It's a good reminder that we all have to be willing to report spam to try to get rid of it.

Hi, Tammy!

The report button is at the top, just under the title of the post.

When you click it, a drop down menu appears.

Choices are SPAM, not original Content, violation of AR Guidelines.

Tammy, they've done a great job filtering out spam - compared to what it was like a few years ago - remember all of the comments on featured posts from guys selling term papers and fake Chanel sunglasses?  And it still feels good to zap them!

Fred Griffin is right, it is now easier to report. What members should know is to report spam, and never delete spam comments, but report and wait till AR removes them. If you delete, they, like parasites would be in the system and do what they do. When AR deletes the accounts, they are gone from the system.
