The Real Estate Profession and Honesty

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Just when you think you can never go wrong being honest in the real estate business in Sacramento, an agent may disagree or draw upon a different experience. Listening to those comments a few days ago was interesting for me because I never stop to consider the effect that raising awareness of honesty and ethics can bring.

I stick to the premise that most agents I know practice Sacramento real estate in an honest fashion. You can read more about this in my personal blog today at this link: Is the Sacramento Real Estate Profession Countercultural?

I think I agree with Cornel West on this one.  Being honest and ethical in business these days does make you countercultural.  Sad but true.

I remember the motto and promises people made back in the day about not selling out. And then you hear Bob Dylan selling Cadillacs.

I think most of the professionals (whether agent, attorney, appraiser, whatever) I work with are fundamentally honestElizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents.  It's rare that my bells and whistles go off regarding honesty.

But ... I find it somewhat dishonest in practice to take the business of a client ... promise to represent them fully and well, then conduct  "cricket" communication while in the process of transacting their deal.  Doesn't seem to be fulfilling the services promised .. and as a result, somewhat dishonest in nature.  Getting paid for a job poorly conducted and completed seems to fall into the realm of dishonesty, to some degree.  And unfortunately, these days ...  hearing crickets is becoming fairly commonplace.  And that's whether pro or client ...

Lots of fodder for discussion here ...

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi I am always perplexed when I don't hear back from agents or when agents don't seem to be on top of their business. I would be completely embarrassed if I behaved in that manner.

I'm in totally agreement with you.  There are a handful of agents that I think are not really competent to do their job and a tiny fraction that I believe are dishonest.  But hard working and honest agents are by far the majority.

Tammy Lankford, I think in larger metropolitan areas, you might get more of the questionable practices but especially in small towns word travels fast.

Elizabeth.  there are scoundrels in all professions ... including real estate.  I do seem to encounter more dishonestly in life and in real estate than I'd like to experience.

I probably report only one agent a year to the DRE. Although I might have to fly to San Diego to testify against the last one. There just aren't many that I run across, and my radar is always up.

Hi Elizabeth - common courtesy and effective communication certainly makes a real estate transaction so much smoother.  Yes, there may be issues arise but we're not talking brain surgery - stuff happens -- deal with it and move on.

I agree with you about apples ---- you may be right about employing some well-placed lobbying efforts.

Michael Jacobs I had never considered the grapes vs apples thing before but now that it's rolled off my fingertips, it makes sense.
