 When It’s Right It’s Right

Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and

wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.”

William Penn 1644 - 1718, English Real Estate Entrepreneur,

Philosopher, Quaker and Founder of the Province of

Pennsylvania

As I see it. . . . . . . .

When it’s right it’s right

There are times that you will be asked . . . . to compromise your integrity.

It can be in your business practices . . . . by not presenting a contract in a timely fashion because you’re asks to hold off for 24 hours. It can be a seller asking you to not mention a defect in a property . . . .  Or you are asked by someone not to show the property because they may be getting an offer.

It can happen in negotiations . . . . It can be on the edge of the Code of Ethics violation. There are a number of “little things” that you can be asked to do “just this one time”.

Things are either right . . . . or they’re  wrong. When you’re being asked to bend the rules for them . . . . they are asking you to compromise your integrity. A little wrong can accelerate out of your control . . . . and turn into a big thing or a flat out disaster.

What’s right is right . . . . and what’s wrong is wrong . . . .  It’s not matter what the size of what the wrong is. Take the high road of doing what’s right . . . . and you will never have to look over your shoulder.

When it’s right it’s right.

Yes, I guess we as Realtors will all be asked to do something that is not ethical. I will even lose a friend over any ethical issues. I have even let a listing pass by because I knew the owner was not planning on disclosing flooding issues.

Lou - well said.  And may I add that just as there is no such thing as a half pregnant woman there is no such thing as a half ethical person.

Mom use to say this a lot to all of us... now I find myself saying it as well as hearing my siblings say it. What’s right is right . . . . and what’s wrong is wrong

Lou agreed when it's right it's right. Today while doing a CMA for a clients I noticed a listing on the market a very long time for my market.  The 'newer' agent had the wrong map code listed for 156 days. Yikes. Any agent searching for homes in this area would never see it. I happened to find it on the tax records, not in the MLS search. I did call her and let her know as I hope others would do if there was a typo for us. She was so appreciative.
