They are talking about 18" to 24" before it's over!

We are in the middle of a winter storm here in Minot ND, the 1st of this season. Technically it's not a "winter" storm as winter does not officially start until December 21st and this is also not a blizzard because the temperature is to high to qualify. In one major way it's worse than a blizzard, that being with the temp being near 30 degrees this snow has a very high moisture content making it extremely heavy to shovel and it's also a crushing weight to sit on any roof. This is a 3 day storm and we are in day 2 at this time. Amazingly enough they have not called school off. I think they are endangering our children by not doing so but what do I know?

I do not envy you!

Being raised in New Hampshire, I had enough experience with the "beauty" of snow, and now I'm slowly moving south--Florida here I come!

Moving South has always been one of my dreams Fulton Gaylord but with my kids in High School I won't be moving until they do.

Oh wow, Bob... better you than me is what I'm thinking! I hate snow and cold. But I agree with you that maybe school should have been cancelled. Stay safe.

Thanks Nina Hollander this is a real "back breaker" snow. I'm so glad I have a big 15 year old son to help me out (and a snowthrower).

Hi Bob

Sorry to hear but I suppose in your area it's inevitable. Glad I don't have to worry about snow any more - had my fill in New England for 21 years! Be safe!

Thanks Jeff Dowler , yes snow is inevitable here but it's been many years since I've had to deal with snow that has as high a moisture content as this. My electric snow-thrower can not handle it and my gas powered one only throws it about 8'.

Hello Bob, They did not call off school.  Wow, is that normal up there in a Blizzard?

I think it's very reckless of them Will Hamm as only the main streets have been plowed and cars are stuck everywhere. Minot does not have a school bus system either which has always baffled me. I think they are endangering kids and parents.

My Bride works in an elementary school and I know some not so wise (or maybe even caring) parents will send these little ones off in the bad weather to find their way to school Hannah Williams

HI Bob "RealMan" Timm - when I lived in CA - I had no clue about snow.  We just had our first snow only it was one tenth of an inch....just snow flurries.  Our mountains did get covered though.  Red rocks and snow are a beautiful combination. I can now tell the difference between a snow cloud and a rain cloud!

Wow you got hammered with the white stuff.  Our mountains got lots of snow Sunday night which might be where this storm came from....

Could be Belinda Spillman . Unfortunately for us once it got here it decided to "park" for 3 days. My back is starting to kill me.

We are waiting for what is left of what you get...but awful warm.  The ground is warm and soft...not good for plowing snow.

I am very lucky to have a big strong 15 year old son at home to help me out William Feela . I have a very long history of back trouble but I always ignore it and suffer greatly because I do.
