I just learned about something really interesting that’s also fun to say: wabi sabi. Seriously, say it out loud. ;-)
Wabi sabi is a Japanese concept that calls for finding beauty in the flawed or imperfect. I really liked this because, let’s face it, we’re all flawed and imperfect. When I saw a picture of this philosophy in action, I liked it even more…
Consider, for example, that this bowl was unremarkable in every way. It was simply one among countless other bowls, until it was dropped. Only after being shattered, could it be reassembled into something more beautiful than it ever was before– and this is the Japanese art of Kintsukuroi.
My question is, am I crazy, or is this really cool? I might have to head home and drop something…
