CONFESSIONS OF A CLOSET JUNKIE

by ©Patricia Feager, 12/22/2016

At the end of the day, you're responsible for yourself and

your actions and that's all you can control.

So rather than be frustrated with

what you can't control, try

to fix the things you can

--- Kevin Garnet

Closet Clutter

Feng shui enthusiasts believe a neat house allows energies to flow harmoniously. But the trouble with closets is most people shut the door and the energy is trapped inside. If you declutter one closet at a time a lot of air will circulate and you'll be surprised how much bigger your closet will be. You have the power to control clutter in your closet.

Conquer The Clutter

Organize the things you need to have. Donate to charity what you don't need. If you can't control a single closet, how can you control anything else? The power to control is within your grip.

Confront Your Clutter

Take responsibility for the clutter that was created by you. Confront it. Look it squarely in the eye! Don't be afraid of it! Don't let it lie there, dormant, devalued, like a useless garment. Control the clutter and decide what stays and what goes.

Confess

"I will never be able to get into those pair of jeans again!"

"The truth shall set you free!" One size does not fit forever.

Clothing goes out of style.

Control the amount of clothing you need. If you haven't worn something in a long time, chances are you never will. Live and let go! Control the lifestyle you were meant to live.

P.S. This is merely a story I wrote and not a true life story about myself.

Wayne Martin - Closets are great to store things. Out of sight out of mind but taking control and cleaning them out sure makes things stay clean and fresh.

Have a wonderful Christmas holiday!

I read once that an unorganized home clutters the mind, so a place for everything is something I stick to...

Patricia, clutter drives me crazy. I clean out closets twice a year in our house and donate most of what I clean out. Getting rid of the clutter really does help with feeling at peace in my opinion.

Amanda S. Davidson - It must be wonderful to start each day by opening up the doors to a clean and organized closet. To begin each day with peace of mind is wonderful!

Good morning Patricia. I like your story and wish I could de-clutter more myself. I'm working on it though.

Sheila Anderson - Working on it is better than being a procrastinator and doing nothing about taking control of the situation. Alls well that ends peacefully!

Happy Chanuka!

Those darn closets.  I have a few that could use a good de-cluttering.  I finally gave up on my skinny pants a few years back.  Those were donated to make room for the pants that actually fit my rear!

Giving up on skinny pants is probably the hardest thing for a woman to do! It must be great to donate to those in need and have only what you really need. It takes a courageous person to take control!

Wishing you the best for the holidays and a very Happy New Year!

Hi Patricia - This is an issue we have confronted recently with our home on the market. It's amazing what was in those closets, and they certainly look better now.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

Dick Greenberg - You're not alone. What a difference serious decluttering makes inside the closets. Can you imagine if houses in America weren't built with closets? Have you noticed the more expensive houses are making even bigger closets, bigger than some the size of a bedroom for a smaller home?

What just kills me is when agents take a photo of the closet for the MLS and it is overwhelmingly cluttered. I don't understand.

Joe Pryor - I completely agree with you! I've seen it way too often and there is no reason for an agent to put a photograph like that in the MLS. If I were a Seller I would get rid of that agent! Sellers deserve to have an honest agent who will help them sell and tell them what needs to be done. And it's the agent's job to showcase this listing in its best light.

Oh, BUT I need those jeans to remind me that I was skinny at one time and to motivate me to take care of myself... I need that skirt, it's made from the cloth that my grandmother gave me many years ago... it's never been washed and never will be.  I have gone through and discarded what was not precious and I will never wear.. but there are a few pieces that no-one would understand why I keep them

Dec 23, 2016 04:41 PM
Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

Judi K Barrett - Many women share your views! Letting go of clothes that don't fit is so hard, it's like admitting that you're not getting older and you can, yes you can get back into those jeans! I think the commercials on T.V. that introduce all those diet scams gives women false hope.

I just love your response! It's the VOICE of the people!
