After 7 years, my patience has been rewarded

Two days ago I received an email which read:

"Hi Lottie,
Your wait seems to be over! There are a couple plots available at Ft. Mason Community Garden!
Please contact me and we'll talk about the procedure and schedule a time to meet.
If you are no longer interested, please let me know."

After 7 long years of waiting, I finally had moved to the top of the waiting list for a garden plot at the Fort Mason Community Garden! I was elated!

And then the doubts began to creep in:

  • when will I find the time to plant and care for my garden?
  • what do I want to plant?
  • I don't remember much from my gardening day
  • What if it's too much trouble, more than it's worth?

After those initial doubts, though, I now find myself excited, thinking thoughts like:

  • a Meyer lemon tree, flowers to beautify my home, probably some lavender, and basil and.....
  • I'm looking forward to meeting, working with and sharing ideas with a great group of San Franciscans
  • what a marvelous venue, giving me time to think and reflect, to lay plans for my business in beautiful surroundings

Yes, I'll be following up, setting an appointment, choosing my gardening spot and making plans.

Life is good!

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - hello Alexandra - I'll probably bore you with my fledgling gardening efforts, but I'm looking foward to carving out the time to experiment at Ft. Mason.

Will Hamm - I started out 200-something on the waiting list; at least my time has come while I'm still ambulatory

I think this gardening venture will be fun, Nina Hollander - I'm thinking color, lots of color! And fragrance! Perhaps a few English pea plants next year....

If you like raspberries, they grow like weeds and will give you a couple of crops a year. Potatoes? They keep coming up too, just leave the small ones in there. Neither get eaten by slugs, my mortal enemies in my garden. That's it. I'm done.

Anna Banana Kruchten - you have a good memory. Yes, I've written about the gardens before, and my spot on the waiting list. I'm starting to get excited!!

Hi Kathy Streib - thanks! I'll be reading my "Sunset Garden Book" in the evenings to come, to figure out what to plant. (I haven't yet figured out how I'll make the time!)

Hello Joe Pryor - your comment made me smile. Happy I am that it's a garden plot I've acquired!

Hello Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, Broker, Tacoma Washington and Brian England - I'm sure I'll be posting progress at "my" garden plot from time to time. I'm getting excited.

Bob Crane - you're right--Rachael is as excited as I am, and my husband (not a gardener) has volunteered to help. I think we'll have a family project, with lots of good times.

After living in a condo for 5 years, and too busy many years before then, gardening will be a new adventure, Sheila Anderson - I'm looking forward to it.

Hello Myrl Jeffcoat - I think in any community where there are a lot of high rises, community gardens are in demand. I had to wait 7 years to get one of the scarce plots. Other community gardens in the city have shorter wait times, but I can walk to this one - 30 minutes and I'm there!

I'm getting excited now, Donna Foerster - not sure from which pot I'll snatch the necessary time, but new things are good.

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® - I hadn't though of raspberries .... I'll think about that--could work well.

Debe Maxwell - fears are gone; excitement reigns! I chose my garden plot yesterday.

Hello Lou Ludwig - fortunately for us, we have wonderful year-round farmers' markets for produce. I'll try my hand with flowers in this shady garden plot

Happy Sunday, Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint - this community garden will be a fun experience for me - I'm very excited.
