Which Schools are Best? Sorry, I Can't Answer That!
Many times I am asked questions I cannot answer. Why? Because, as my friend Debe Maxwell says, "It's the law!" However, we can direct you to sites with information.
Although Debe lives in Charlotte, NC, the same applies to Boca Raton Florida. If you are looking at homes for sale in Boca Raton Florida and need schools, please take a few minutes to read this post.
Which Schools are Best? SORRY, I CAN’T ANSWER THAT!
How to Research Charlotte Schools Before Making Your Next Home Purchase
There are many things that a home buyer takes into consideration but, schools have to be one of our most requested ‘specifics’ for our buyers. With or without children, home buyers recognize the importance of appreciation and resale value in top-ranked school zones vs. lower performing schools.
As real estate agents, we are not allowed to tell you which schools are better than others but, we can certainly tell you where to do the research! So, don’t be offended if you ask that question and we tell you that we cannot answer that -IT’S THE LAW!
Here are a few tips for doing your homework and researching schools before your next home purchase:
VISIT www.SchoolMatch.com
SchoolMatch.com is a great resource that puts some great information right at your fingertips. This is a fee-based service but, they have details on public AND private institutions. This resource features ratings on schools throughout the country. From our clients who have utilized this service, they say it’s definitely worth the small cost.
VISIT www.NAEYC.com
With a wealth of information on preschools and elementary schools located throughout the country, the National Association for the Education of Young Children is another helpful website as well. The organization offers soft and hard copy pamphlets which can help you make an informed decision about your children’s perspective schools. They also have a call center so that you can speak with someone directly if you have specific questions.
VISIT THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Visiting the neighborhood is a great way for you to get a sense of the area you're interested in as well as the amenities and how the residents feel about the schools. Visit the neighborhoods when the school buses pick up and drop off (we can find out the times through the school system for you) - this often gives peace of mind to Charlotte home buyers. By taking a walk through the neighborhood and visiting with other parents in the community, you’ll have a better sense of whether or not the school(s) are a good fit for you and yours.
DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ONLINE - VISIT THE SCHOOLS
Like any other service provider, schools can sometimes get a bad rap online - and for no reason. Some parents will have a beef with one specific teacher and will give a school a 1-star rating - despite 4 perfectly wonderful years before or after a particular incident; the rating is never corrected. Online reviews are great but, sometimes you do have to read between the lines…and visit the schools, visit your soon-to-be neighbors.
Good schools are a necessity for many Charlotte home buyers moving to the area - not just you! We are accustomed to assisting our clients with school tours, neighborhood tours and other local school information that you may need. If we are not allowed by law to answer a specific question, we can tell you where to go to find the answer.
