Dessert and Diet

By

When you are on a diet, it is best to skip dessert.  It  just makes sense to let the sweets pass by and try not to think about them.  Salads are great and I love my vegetables.  Add a little piece of lean meat, chicken or fish and I'm good most of the time.

However, there are times when you just want that sweet taste covering your taste buds.  No matter what you do, that desire will not go away.  Chew some gum.  Eat a stalk of celery like I did last night.  Go brush your teeth an extra time.  Enjoy that fresh,  clean feeling in your mouth.  Talk to yourself about how much better you are going to feel when you lose those extra pounds.  Pep talks only help sometimes though.

When nothing seems to work, break down and have that decadent dessert.  Enjoy every last bite.  The key is to make the dessert one that tastes good, looks good and is still low in calories.  How about this healthful and pretty dessert.  I made this and it only has about 120 calories.  That is not much for such a satisfying, pleasure packed and healthful treat.

Strawberry CrepesThis strawberry crepe is made with a pancake mix with added water to make it very thin.  The fresh strawberries only have about 2 calories per berry, so use as many as you wish.  Whipped topping only has 15 calories per tablespoon, so you can be generous with this too.  I used a light dusting of powdered sugar to make it pretty.

Desserts like this can be enjoyed often without ruining the diet.

Tip:  I put the same strawberries in the salad for lunch.  My husband said they were too tart and did not like them.  I put them in here and he loved them. This tip is for wives that have husbands or children that don't think they like to eat fresh fruits.

Too tart for the salad but not for the dessert. You have a handle on your hubby.

I'll order desert sometimes and take 2-3 bites then that's it. It's fun to indulge, but not over eat. Finishing everything on your plate is not healthy, it's good to break Mom's old rule and leave food on the plate.

Ricki Eichler McCallum - now I can't say no to the sweets!

I tend to go to fresh fruit most of the time. I love plums especially after a meal.
