Who is in your Network? What is the definition of Success? Great questions!
This post was inspired by one of our friends on Active Rain Praful Thakkar who wanted to know.
My take is that the real question is very philosophical. I have always enjoyed reading Jim Rohn and his ideas; with that said, if you agree with his definition of ‘success’ then all those points are valid. (in case you missed the post I am including a link for your convenience http://actvra.in/55xn)
What is the definition of Success? I subscribe to the legendary Coach John Wooden’s definition of success i.e. success is a state of mind. In other words, “…a peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming…”
With that said, I am a firm believer that the definition and the meaning of “success” is different for every person.
I happen to be one of my own harshest critics. I have strong core values that define my lifestyle, belief system, business ethics and hence, my way of life. I have what some people would term as an “insane” work ethic.
Being a Beverly Hills Realtor, I am in a very competitive real estate environment to say the least. The competition is fierce, and the number of agents vying for the same listings is high. I must be mentally tough, perhaps relentless is a better word, and be prepared for frequent failures before success is achieved; all while maintaining my business ethics.
So, who is/was in my network? My network is wide and has a global reach. If you look at all the portals you will find me, thanks to the World Wide Web, all over various business and social platforms. My outreach is wide as my client list will confirm, since I have represented buyers and sellers from China, Japan, Australia, just to mention the Pacific Rim as an example. I also have a European client list, as well as from Finland, Norway, Russia, and Italy.
On the other hand, if you are looking at how I developed this value system, my answer is simple. I must give most of the credit to my parents, particularly my father who was instrumental in introducing me to “…principal centered business ethics, family values, having dreams and how to be relentless in achieving them…” Hence, I learned early in life the true definition of “success”, and seeing my mother support him through thick and thin showed me the value of “loyalty”.
My education at USMA, Ranger School and Airborne School have taught me discipline and the ability to go past what you think you are capable of doing, by being mentally tough and able to persevere. My time in the US Army taught me how to deal with people from different socio-economic backgrounds and value systems, and my time at EMU & UCONN augmented this as well.
I have the support from Diane at home, she is there for me through thick and thin, and of course we have our pets who give me unconditional love day-in and day-out.
There is also a great company that is in my network that I am thrilled to be a part of that being Berkshire Hathaway; my Manager and the support staff are truly amazing, and I can’t forget my Transaction Coordinator.
