... and what those in Huston can expect in their immediate future.

Minot 2011, my homeThe scene to the left was repeated three times before we had completely cleaned out the debris of our home home and then there was the "gutting" of the home it self (the only part of our home salvaged at all was the studs and the roof. Not to mention that our flood covered the ground for an entire month thus almost all vegetation was destroyed except the largest of trees).

A few things Hustonites can expect:

1) A lot of help from friends and if you are the member of a faith group (church) you can expect help from them as well.

2) If you were wise enough to have had flood insurance you can expect NOTHING from the government except that to get your insurance claim processed you have to list every knife, spoon, fork, screw driver, and hammer, when you purchased it... etc.. etc.. to get your claim paid off. BTW the government gave everyone that did not have insurance $30,000 without question. Another BTW, many slightly effected renters gleefully drove off with their new fully loaded Ford F150's after their payment.

3) Shortages at the large hardware stores like Menards and Home Depot. Price gouging at many smaller stores.

4) A lot of unscrupulous contractors. HIRE LOCAL CONTRACTORS ONLY or ones who can prove a good reputation with documentation.

5) Nobody will clean and sanitize your home as well as you hope... be there to oversee the work. This goes for local companies and national names you have know for years as well such as Service Master and Serve Pro. If you want a mold free sanitized home you are going to have to be on top of this completely.

6) I hate to say that all the trades gouged clients but the only ones I can say was honest and fair with me was my general contractor and my plumber,  friends I have worked with for many years. The  electricians were by far the WORST as they greatly over charged, were rude, and did absolutely nothing to clean up after themselves.

I will have more for you as the memories return but for now I say have faith in your friends and in faith based groups like The Salvation Army and The Red Cross. Best Wishes.

Another reason NAR is pushing to get the flood insurance continued!!!

I agree Sham Reddy however the program needs to be run much better than it is. I and many others felt we were punished for having flood insurance and those who did not prepare were rewarded!

Good morning Bob.

Hopefully, Irma won't get anywhere lose the the eastern part of the U.S. We don't need a repeat of what Houston went through

That is for sure James Dray , there has been enough suffering and not enough time to recover.
