Self Doubt Has Little Place in Realtor Interviews

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Few Sacramento Realtors are fearless and confident. To possess those qualities does not mean you need to be arrogant, I should point out. I find that people who are insecure, filled with self doubt, low self esteem and harboring an unreasonable fear of the unknown, sometimes view others without those deficiencies as arrogant. There is nothing boastful about being confident or self assured.

I thought about this during a recent episode of BoJack Horseman. Conflicted, twisted, insecure guy that BoJack. Reminded me of an old friend who was once at the top of the world as the lead singer in a famous 1960s band and never recovered from that experience. People like me who have always felt comfortable in our own skin and like we could do anything in the world that we set our minds to tend to baffle people who are not like us.

There is nothing wrong with being confident.  Customers sense uncertainty and it causes them to be cautious going forward with decisions.

Good morning, Elizabeth -- I've never heard of BoJack prior to this but Brad's Status is on my list to see(two thumbs from you?).   As far as confidence, other agents and seller interviewing skills --- I think a lot of it is finding the right connection.  Can we work together to make this happen?

Elizabeth,

Once again, I am in full agreement with Michael Jacobs commentary.  We have always define arrogance as an assertion of ignorance.  It is how one French author defined it, and I have been a fan ever since I read the book.  There are many types of confidence and connection is key.  A

Home buyers and sellers can usually smell insecurity a mile away.  Experience and knowledge are a great antidote to insecurity.

Michael Jacobs BoJack Horseman is on Netlfix, I think. It's hilarous. Amy Sedaris, Aaron Paul, Will Arnett.

Yes, 2 thumbs up for Brad's Status. It's very much a Mike White movie. Whom I happen to like but sometimes he is so in your face, LOL. He also stars in it.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I'm glad you liked my word of the day. I did not think pulchritudinous sounds like it should, either. It almost has the opposite connotation. But it's a great word. See? Thank Davis Sedaris for recognizing that fact.

Elizabeth, homeowners need to know the person they are interviewing can do the job, without doubt.   Great post.

Hi Elizabeth- Self-confidence is one of the best gifts our parents can give us. It's hugely different from arrogance. Consumers want to work with people who know they can get the job done and who, in fact, will get the job done. We have to let them know that. They'll pick up on our confidence.
