Preparing For Winter in Franklin MA | Pellet Stove and Tons of Pellets

Winter is just around the corner in Franklin MA, and this is the time of year for purchasing my winter supply of wood pellets. I had 3 ton of pellets delivered yesterday, and my grandson will load them in the basement today.

There are 150 bags (50 on each pallet) and each bag weighs 40 pounds.  That’s my exercise every day during the winter. I carry up 7 to 10 bags a week from the basement to a utility closet where I store them.

My pellet stove is 3 years old, and I love it. It’s an Avalon and it’s so much easier than burning wood.  There’s no odor, but most importantly, there’s no mess.  I can’t imagine carrying wood indoors from outside. My OCD won’t handle that!!!

For the past few days, I’ve been using single bags that I purchased to run the stove in the morning with 40 degree temperatures.  It’s just enough to take the chill out of the house, and I run it again in the evening for a few hours, to carry me through the night.

I highly recommend a pellet stove. It’s an ideal way for females to have a safe fire to keep the house warm with very nice atmosphere when friends visit.

Now, all we need is a snow storm, and that satisfies four hours of heavy lifting.  I shovel two properties!!!

BarbaraT-I'd never heard of a pellet stove or pellets until I read your blog years ago! We'd be happy here just to be able to turn off the A/C.

That supply of pellets should keep you comfortable and cozy for the winter, Barbara.  We are enjoying temps in the 80s here in Sacramento.  However, rain is forecast for this coming friday.

I've been trying to sell my wife on a pellet stove ever since you wrote your first blog post about the wonders and savings that you have accomplished with your pellet stove. She's going to read this blog post for sure Barbara Todaro

Good morning Barbara.

I tried to talk my wife into getting one when we moved into our current home.  She wouldn't hear of it.  Now she tells me each fall she wished she would have listened to me.  Maybe in our next home we'll have one

James Dray they have free standing pellet stoves, if there is no fireplace for an insert.... you could easily have one in a corner of a room and enjoy the warmth....

Very cool, Barbara! When you say tons of pellets, you literally MEAN tons of pellets, don't you?! Do you ever say you're 'too tired' to do ANYthing? I mean you have more energy than three 20-year-olds! Impressive as usual.

Happy Sunday, Barbara!

Debe Maxwell, CRS each pallet is 1 ton.... 2,000 pounds on each pallet... 50 (40 pound) bags.... I look forward to carrying those.... in the gym it's called a farmer's carry.... I actually do a 250 pound pull of a sled... the sled is 103 pounds and I had my trainer stand on it.... I had a strap around my hips and I pulled it without using arms... just a body pull!!!! fun... I loved it... so, no I don't get tired....

I'm trying to stay in top condition to NEVER get tired....that will be a sad day for me....

I know it will be and I feel the same way, Barbara! Using your core and body for pulling - especially that much weight - is the smartest way to move something that heavey, I would think.
