Time Limit for New Californians to Get a Drivers License

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

When I moved to Sacramento in 2002 from Minnesota, the first thing I did was make a beeline from The Hyatt to the DMV. This was before the days of having the availability of appointments. Back then you had to walk into the DMV, take a number, and wait for the sun to go down. Now you can make an appointment.

In fact, I did not change the photograph on my license until last year. What, with my hair not being brown anymore and all. It was a breeze. I sailed in at the appointed time, filled out my application and was out of there in record time. I was also prepared to remove my contact lenses for the eye exam. It helps to bring a solution-filled case.

If you are a new resident to Sacramento and wonder how much time you have before you need to get a driver's license, you can read more in my personal blog today at this link: When Do I Need a New Driver's License in California?

P.S. Thanks for the idea, Joan!

Good morning, Elizabeth -- you're practically a 2017 version of the Welcome Wagon with this post.  Good information for those relocating to the area as well as that guy I have seen with Oregon plates in my neighborhood for the last six or seven years.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents, DMV office in NYC was a total nightmare, I remember taking an entire day off from work if I had to go to DMV. I'm thankful their processes have improved.

Elizabeth, great post and there are so many in Los Angeles, that should read it and comply.... funny part is they do not intentionally because their insurance, taxes etc would increase... and lucky for them Los Angeles Police does not focus on this issue....Endre

Hi Elizabeth... people hold off here in Charlotte because they need to pass a written exam to change out their licenses. We've had an appointment system for many years and I love it. My license is good till 2022 but I need to change it in the coming year to comply with the new requirements from FAA to fly.
