Today, I am thankful for electricity.

Entry #4 in the Activerain "thankful" contest.

Why electricity you might ask?

Because it just went out over a huge area and I am relying on the battery in my computer to write this blog. I am currently in northern California where this sort of thing happens during winter storms mostly, not in the middle of an average day like today.

Just heard from Crescent City Hall that the outage is (Del Norte) county wide except south of Elk Valley Rd.

And, yes, I should get a generator like my neighbors for these recurring events. But then the lights come back on, and then this project gets pushed to the back of the list.

But even with a generator that gets the lights back on, you are still:

Without Cable and Internet.

Thank heavens I have a "hot spot" on my phone, but even that will only last until the "low bat" problem comes up, and I've left my exterior battery at my office in Carmel. Well, next time I need to make sure it goes into my "traveling office file".

So, on to "Plan B" and that is: Walk the dogs.

Hella,

It always amazes me how reliant we are on electricity, even the gas stove needs electricity...makes a strong case for sun power.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - Electricity was not what I was going to write about - until I was left without, and all the problems that arose. But my dogs are happy!

There are so many things to be thankful for that we take for granted. As the old song says, you don't miss your water until the well runs dry.

Joe Pryor - So right. Until the electricity went off, I had no idea I would want to use it as one of my 12 "thankful" blogs. But that's really it, if the Internet goes out, for example, we are up a pretty ugly creek these days. Electricity is right up there too.

Great post-- all of us in the states should be very thankful for having electricity! Many in PR are still without it, and we often do not consider it as the luxury that it is.

Yes, even my tankless water heater relies on electricity. If I were you, I'd buy a generator. They're not that expensive. I had a generator when I built a house in San Felipe, but it's pretty much a given you need a generator in Mexico. Pretty unreliable utilities there.
