Prescription Drug Take Back Day In Charlotte, North Carolina: Saturday, October 27th

From 10:00 AM Till 2:00 PM

Got drugs you no longer need or that are expired? Get rid of them safely in the Charlotte, North Carolina metro area this Saturday, October 27th during the DEA's National Prescription Take Back Day from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

Why take back prescription drugs? Recent studies show that 6.2 million Americans misused controlled, prescription drugs and that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take Back Day provides an opportunity to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. The April 2018 National Prescription Drug Take Back day collected almost one million pounds of drugs through 5,842 collection sites nation-wide. Why not help grow that number on October 27th?

Good morning Nina.  I hope that folks will be responsible and take their unused drugs to this event rather than dumping them into the environment.

This is very important information Nina Hollander . Anyone involved with City water systems will tell you do not flush your pills because they do effect our water supply.

Barbara Todaro hi Barbara... I know this campaign happens twice a year and that CVS and Walgreens have drop-offs in their stores year-round for drugs that are unused or expired.

Bob "RealMan" Timm hi Bob... I think most municipalities don't do enough to ask their residents not to flush meds down the toilet or crush pills and put them in the sink to drain.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® hi Sheri... with all the opioid related deaths, I think people need to become way more vigilant about how they handle their meds when no longer needed or expired.

Joan Cox hi Joan... I would think that there's hardly a household anywhere that doesn't have some pills that need disposing because they have expired or no longer used.

Gabe Sanders hi Gabe... agreed... people often don't realize you don't want to put these drugs into the water or land systems. Municipalities should do a better job of warning residents how to dispose of them safely.

Collection days like these are important for communities. Old or unused medications are a danger and need to be disposed of properly.
